Ok, you know this is my thing so, tell me about your weddings! Or if you aren't married yet, tell me about your ideal wedding :)

Was there a theme? Colors? Your dress? Time of year? The cake? Venue? Flowers? Did you have a cocktail hour? Etc. Just give me all the details and describe it as best as you can. Details are the best part you know!

I'm surprised I haven't asked this yet.

  • @jensavicci that sounds perfect!
  • Awwww you guys!!! These are awesome details and stories! :) this stuff just makes me all mushy gushy inside.
  • Lets start off by saying all wedding costs were up to DH and I. So I did a lot of DIY. From the invites to my bouquets.

Was there a theme? No theme. Mine was very laid back actually. A lot of DIY on my part and polka dotted cake for crying out loud.
Colors? Red, black, and white. I can look back at my wedding pictures in years to come and not wonder what I was smoking by picking the color trend at the time. That sounds snarky, Sorry.
Your dress? My dress was white and had red stitching on the bodice from David's Bridal. Time of year? Fall. It was in October but it was still hot as balls outside.
The cake? I had a 3 tier square cake that was polka dotted.
Venue? A tree enclosed park area at my aunt's apartment complex. We joke and say it was the dog shit park. After the shit was cleaned up it was beautiful and quiet and didm' t stink.
Flowers? I made my bouquets and boutiniers (sp?). I used red and white roses. I bought long stem roses in both colors. My bridesmaids had red bouquets that I had trimmed wrapped in black polka dot ribbon. And my bouquet I used the rest of the red roses and the entire dozen of the white mixed kept them kong stem and wrapped in red satin ribbon and wrapped again with the black polka dot ribbon. The mens flower I used artificial white cherry blossom flowers.
Did you have a cocktail hour? No cocktail hour. We did finger food and cake. Nothing too fancy.

We spent all our money on the honeymoon to Maui, where we spent a week. It was heavenly.

  • Kiddo is being a screamer right now, but I had to comment. @Skeemer‌ I had a wedding dress with color too a LOVE it!! And we totally had a snare drum cake at our rehearsal dinner (DH is a drummer)
  • DH and I got married October 29th, 2010. I would have chosen Halloween but we would not have been able to get married in our church if we did. Our colors were red, black, and white. I wore a traditional ballroom gown with simple beading and a long train. My mom made my veil. I had a friend do my hair and makeup and she have me a pinup look. My bouquet was made of black magic roses and deep purple calla lilies. My shoes were zombie heels from Iron Fist.

My DH wore a white dress shirt, black slacks, a black tie with clock gears on it (just a small portion of the tie), and black suspenders. His boutonniere was a deep purple calla lily.

My bridesmaids wore black, knee length dresses. I tried to find them matching ones but bc one of my bridesmaids was older, I gave up and let them pick their own. Their bouquets consisted of white daisies and baby's breath. My MOH had white daises, white roses, and baby's breath in hers. The groomsmen wore a black dress shirt, black slack, white suspenders, and a white skinny tie. Their boutonnieres were the black magic roses.

The ceremony was at our church. We made an arch out of long branches and red mum flowers. We had rose petals scattered down the aisle and tea lights along the chairs. The alter had wicker pumpkins and black candle lantern. We had 3 of our friends, who also happened to be on the worship team for church, play music at our wedding. It was simple and beautiful. They played mostly worship songs written by member of our church, but the song I walked down the aisle to was "Samskeyti" by Sigur Ros.

The reception was held at Mellwood Art Center. We did all the decorating ourselves and the food was catered by friends and family. It was gothic themed. The cake was 2 tiers, with a skeleton bride and groom on top and spider webs and roses adorning the cake.

The music was 50's themed, with some modern stuff thrown in. No one really danced but they did have a blast with the Photo Booth we provided.

I loved my wedding and DH and I did a majority of the legwork ourselves. We had a limited budget and so, we had to get creative. I think we did a great job.
  • I got married in Vegas, we had planned a May wedding locally, but had some health issues come up. So we called everyone and asked if they'd come out in September for a Vegas wedding everyone who really mattered said yes so we did it at MGM Grand with about 30 friends and family.
