The Weirdest MS Triggers

I've been pregnant twice before this... Once 13 (almost 14) years ago and once earlier this year (miscarried in July). I have to say, I think I've experienced some of the weirdest 'morning' sickness triggers ever this time around. I've been steadily nauseous all day for several weeks now but sometimes my DH just talking to me causes the sweating, salivating, oh-god-I-might-hurl nauseousness... To the point that I've had to tell him on several occasions that I don't want to talk anymore. Poor guy. He's been so patient with my food requests, too. LOL

On top of that, the smell of my desk (yes, DH, it DOES have a smell) keeps me from getting any work done (I own my own biz and work from home), I had to unplug all of our oil wells from their outlets and put them away just so that I could stand walking in our house, and most days my teenage daughter comes home from dance team with the weirdest non-BO smell that I've never noticed until now... But I have to hold my breath to hug her. The worst, the grocery. Not just one in particular, but ALL OF THEM. I sat outside Whole Foods for 15 minutes the other night trying to convince myself that my new favorite yogurt was worth the trip inside. I never stepped foot outside of my car. The THOUGHT of smelling the grocery makes me gag. And gagging through an entire shopping trip? No fun, in case you haven't tried it!

Would love to hear everyone else's weird nausea triggers!

Re: The Weirdest MS Triggers

  • Thankfully I haven't been super nauseated this pregnancy, but the smell of my house has been making me sick. Also, I will eat something once, hours later will be so disgusted by it I can't eat it anymore period.

  • DH is redoing part of our garage and every time I walk to the construction zone I start dry heaving. I want to say it's the smell of new drywall.

    Baby #3 due April 29, 2015

Recovering from mitochondrial dysfunction and Addison's/possibly very severe adrenal burn out using food, medicine, and a large amount of garden therapy.
  • Water has been getting me lately. I'm trying to drink a lot of water and keep myself hydrated but man it sure upsets my stomach. Most foods I can handle, even really spicy doesn't upset me.
  • The sight of raw chicken. Ick!

  • I don't have anything unusual myself but my MIL said that other people's snot & sneezes & the sort made her gag when she was pregnant with DH.

  • @gmfandmmw‌ , hope those triggers lighten up soon, especially of your DH, daughter, & groceries

    Some weird ones:
    - my work parking garage
    - still water, especially in the cup left out overnight
    - DH's pillow
    - our leather sectional couch
    - teriyaki sauce, but apparently sou sauce is ok
    - the Entire kitchen, not too weird but even when it's completely clean
    - when I open my prenatals

Our one year old crying next to me before I get out of bed.
If I speak before I'm ready to get out of bed.
    And finally strawberries.

  • The heat. If I get too warm at any time it sets it off.
  • I gag when the orthodontist assistant puts her fingers in my mouth. Only for the first few seconds but ugh. Also greasy Italian food and having my neck touched. It's weird!
  • -The texture of apple sauce, I HATE it.
    - The smell of raw potatoes
    - The absolute worst is laundry that sat in the washer just a little bit too long, rewash!

  • This isn't that weird but even when I hold my breath, I gag whenever I open the dishwasher. Even if they're clean! It's mostly the dirty dishes smell though. Ugh.
  • I make my poor husband shower as soon as he gets home.
The fridge is the worst. I can't stand the smell of our house, the car, my job. Pretty much everything!
Other triggers include driving, getting up too quickly, vegetables, water, and when I'm really constipated.
  • Driving is the worst! Started bringing gag bags in the car and use it almost every time. I swear the poor cars next to me must think I'm hung over.

Water, fridge, grocery store and our entire home also make me gag. Good times!
  • I don't have anything unusual myself but my MIL said that other people's snot & sneezes & the sort made her gag when she was pregnant with DH.

Just reading this made me gag.

Yesterday I found a diaper that DH had left in the car over the weekend and I got a whiff of the most rancid, concentrated urine smell. Blech. That's not so abnormal, but hours later, just thinking about it made me want to vom.

  • Brushing my teeth gets me almost every time. Usually just a gag fest, but sometimes, like this morning, it turns into an all out puke-a-thon. Lovely.
  • My house, my dog, my DD bedroom ugh I keep asking my husband if our house actually smells this bad. I'm getting embarrassed to let anyone over. Even though I'm sure I'm the only one that can smell it.

@lacey0482‌ , when i saw the dentist for a cleaning, the hygienist shared that the SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) in many toothpaste may trigger that gag. So she recommended I use TOM'S MAINE toothpaste (sold at trader joe, amazon..)
Here's the thing, around 4-5 week pregnant (before I POAS), I felt the scent of Colgate was too strong. Thought it was just the new tube, & switched back to Tom's. I didn't have that gag, UNTIL I went on a trip last weekend & forgot to bring my Tom's toothpaste. That's when I started to gag, & was wondering why

    Hope it works for you~~

  • After getting the mail, I opened a costco coupon book and the smell it had made me so sick. I just dry heaved thinkin about it. My husband couldn't smell anything and thinks I'm crazy.
  • Brushing my teeth... Caused my first real sickness yesterday. :( but the texture of toothpaste. Just gross. And raw meat... I just can't look at it. So unless we just eat salad it's out to dinner or husband has to cook...

  • Smells get me every day! I have had morning (all day) sickness daily for weeks now. My husband's breath! The kitchen has become my least favorite room of the house. However, I think whole foods smells wonderful especially in the aroma therapy and bath salts section.

Thanks so much! Will definitely get some of that toothpaste to make brushing my teeth not such a horrible experience every morning.
  • The fridge! It must be the scent of all the food mixed in a little space. Same thing happened last pregnancy and I would literally dry heave 4-5 times each time I opened the door.

Oh and my fridge is clean! I pay for housekeeping to clean our fridge every month and always have.
  • -fruit
    -water
    -anything at room temp
    -hot weather
    -smell in my office

  • My husband's body wash makes me not want to be in the same room with him, or in the bathroom. It was a trigger with my first pregnancy and I tried and tried to find him a different kind, but he has super sensitive, dry skin and this one is the only one that works for him. I wish they'd make it in a different scent!

Yea I learned that PetCo is off limits...
My sweaty students, being hot, being hungry, being too full, not sitting up strait.

The smell of my dogs paws. We bathe her 1x a week but I might have to scrub those paws in between. They smell like Fritos... Free toes. Lol

Fast food restaurants, deodorant, not brushing my teeth soon enough (still waking up with dd)
  • I think I smell...off. It's really unfortunate. It doesn't matter whether I just showered, what kind of soap I use, nothing! Since I can't escape me, I've been using a little lavender oil to distract my damn nose.

I totally feel you! My fridge sends my dry heaving over the edge. I have to hold my nose when I open it! glad I'm not alone! Lol :)

  • I feel like my house smells too.  It was to the point I always had to have the windows open.  With my first I saw a dirty q-tip, mind you not with wax, it had just fallen onto the floor at the store, and completely lost it.  Also, those places that make waffle cones in the press, yuck!
  • Washing the dishes got me the other day. Gross. Oh and the smell of toilet water! Holy moly. Just thinking about it makes me gag.
  • Food photos on Pinterest and Facebook - ick. Also thinking about food too much,
(even though I can handle eating most foods) washing dishes, opening the fridge, or having something touch my neck.
It might be partly my imagination, but worrying also seems to increase my queasiness.
  • This sounds really weird but the other day it was hot outside and being in direct sunlight made me feel really nauseated.
