Reflux babies on Nexium

We switched to Nexium from Prilosec because if we missed her dose by an hour, it was useless for the entire day. How exactly do you give it to your LO? Sometimes Toots doesn't finish her entire bottle because I was going to just put it in with her formula. Should I make a small bottle to make sure she drinks it all first and then give her a bigger bottle?

Re: Reflux babies on Nexium

  • First of all... What an adorable nickname! DD has only been on zantac and prevacid. At first with prevacid I had a hard time using a syringe so I would make a 1 oz bottle and feed her that and then go make more. I wonder why my pediatrician never mentioned there were more meds out there for reflux.

  • She had such a hard time drinking her bottle tonight. It's amazing how one day how medicine can really screw her up. So I ended up feeding her through a syringe. I wouldn't have gone that far if it didn't have her medicine in it. Usually I would just try again when she calmed down. I am just going to put the 5 ml of water in a cup with the medicine like it tells me and then suck it up with a syringe and give it to her that way. She rarely finishes a whole bottle so I can't trust putting it in her formula. An thank you :)

  • We couldn't get her to take the Nexium just mixed with water, so we added in a tiny bit of formula. I would make a bottle, put the Nexium in a second empty bottle and add just a tiny bit in with the medicine. That way I know she gets the whole amount of medicine even if she doesn't drink the whole bottle. Hope the Nexium works for you! It didn't end up working for DD2. Plus it was a PITA because we had to try to split the packets.
