People good at kid hair, I need you

I want to start doing more with my daughter's hair. I'm trying to teach myself how to french braid, and my second attempt is not too shabby, I think, but I want to try more stuff.  Do you have any advice for wiggly toddler hairstyles? I grew up with pony tails or regular braids down the middle, so I don't really know where to start with this. I mostly want to keep her hair out of her face, but I want to do more than just a regular pony tail all the time.

    For anyone French braiding fine hair, how are you getting it to stay? DD's hair slips thru my fingers.
