I feel like this has been discussed here but I'm mobile and can't narrow the threads down from 2,019 from the entire bump!!!

I didn't wear either of my kids but I think with 3 it might be more of a necessity and I'm looking for recommendations or brands to stay away from.

I purchased one from target after DD but hated it she seemed cramped, sunk to the bottom and it was tight. Overall I hated it and returned it within days.

If someone knows the thread this is talked about could you link it, if it hasn't (doubt it) I'd love to hear about everyone's experiences.

Stretchy wraps are the way to go with newborns (in my personal opinion). You can do a structured buckle carrier but you need an infant insert or watch a YouTube video showing you how to use a rolled up receiving blanket.

Here is one thread.

I used the infantino mei tai with my second. I loved it. I am pretty intimidated by all the fabric of the wraps and I had a carrier with adjustable straps with my first that was such a pita because I had readjust the straps when my H used it. The mei tai was best of both worlds. It doesn't have so much fabric to wrap and I never had to adjust it because you tie the straps.

It's really just personal preference.

Sorry to jump in on this @AnonnAni‌, but I was wondering for those of you who have used a fabric wrap like a moby, do you think it is ok to buy second hand? Or do they get stretched out and buying new would be better?

If you get a decent carrier that disperses their weight evenly (and you have them in the correct position) it shouldn't be bad on your back at all.

I just got a moby wrap at a consignment sale for 18 bucks I hope I like it! My question is what carrier does ur DH or SO wear? Pretty sure he would not be rocking the moby.

I used Moby wraps, mei tai and Ergo with my kids. I liked the Moby, but it's a lot of wrapping, and I greatly preferred the mei tai and Ergo.

I'm thinking Solly, K'tan and Tula.

Im an Ergo lover. I went through 3 wraps/carriers before i discovered the Ergo. And i own it in black so dh has no problems wearing it. I am kind of interested in the Tula but i would have to find a place its sold to try it out first. For now I'll stick to my beloved ergo

I bought an Ergo when they were on sale via Nordstrom half yearly, and have registered for a Moby. Both come highly recommended, and I've found that for me it's kind of like the stroller carseat debate - I could probably research it FOREVER, and at the end of the day a choice just needed to be made.

i ordered an ergo when they were on sale too.

i currently have a mei tai on my registry. just so happens that my neighborhood yoga studio is having a baby wearing afternoon for new moms and moms to be to try out different carriers. i may change my cloth carrier after that.

I'm a big Ergo lover, but not until baby is 3-4 months old. I was obsessed with my k'tan those first few months and highly recommend them!! Though yes, getting the right size is super important.

I've contemplated getting a solly wrap, but still haven't made up my mind.

@bvsbabymomma‌ I didn't buy an ergo until DD was 14mo so can't comment on the insert but I wouldn't feel comfortable using it with a newborn. It just didn't feel like it would be secure enough for a floppy NB.

I'm planning in getting a k'tan. There is sizing info on their website. You should be able to register for the size you need. It's based on pre-pregnant dress size.

@Slaps‌ you aren't bugging me at all.

As a newb I put a blanket or rolled it up a little at the bottom and tied it towards the middle of his back for a little bit more support.

When he got heavier and stronger I tied it underneath him for a little more support.

Mine was a very harsh cotton no stretch fabric. But I thought they all were idk I figured if it was stretch baby might fall out when they got heavier.. and then I was super intimidated by the one that you seem to tie (I don't know brands sorry) cuz im clumsy as all hell so Um yeah that can go wrong FAST!!!! I feel like I may need to go look at a few in person and maybe try some on but I think that would be futile pregnant since the sizing would be different... thats the other thing the sizing I'm a larger chested gal so how do you get the right sizing so baby doesn't slide out the bottom but goes over your top area. gesh this seems so complex.

Also how long do you wear them? Sounds like a dumb question to me but is there an age limit? I've only seen babies up to a few months in them is it a safety thing or they get to heavy?

@AnonnAni‌ for me, the mei tai was super easy and I never felt like he would fall out. It has long straps that tie so you can adjust every time for a quick, easy fit. My sister is a bigger, busty girl and when she was visiting she tried it on and it fit her fine.

The infantino has a weight limit of 36lbs. I put my 2yr old in it for shits and giggles today and he fit fine.

ETA: I know the others have weight limits as well but I have very limited experience with other carriers so I can't give much info.

My H works OOT so I wore him a LOT! Whenever I needed two hands for cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry and had a cranky baby that just wanted to be held. Walking the dogs. At the store. At the park so I could help my oldest.

I wore DD at home when she wanted to be held but I needed to get things done. I was able to do laundry, tidy up etc with hands free but still holding her. We used it grocery shopping and anywhere that a stroller would be a hassle.

Yep! Wraps start usually at your hips so sitting is np at all. Their legs will go the sides of you.

Like @Slaps‌ said the mei tai is super easy. It's a little more structured than the wraps where you don't have so much fabric but you have the straps that tie so it's there is no need for readjusting straps and buckles.

I could put the carrier on while walking into the grocery store np.

@bvsbabymomma, not all carriers come in different sizes. The Ergo only has one size because it is adjustable. I based my K'tan size off my normal size. I typically wear medium in everything, so I went with a M. DD fit in it just fine until about 4ish months and it started to get a bit too snug, so we switched over to the Ergo.

I'm a BIG fan of the Ergo, I just didn't like it when she was so little because I felt like it swallowed her (she was 7lbs 8oz at birth). You may still need to stuff a light blanket (a lot of people use the A&A blankets) on the sides if you try using it with a brand newborn.

Stay away from front facing carriers like Baby Born. They are uncomfortable for baby, if they are prone to hip displasia they can cause it to happen and they are also more uncomfortable for the parents using the carrier.

Stretchy wraps are perfect for newborns. woven wraps will last until todlerhood depending on the material but have a bit of a learning curve. If you want a structured carrier look up things like Ergos, Tulas or Manuka.

there are tonnes of Facebook groups for discussing and swapping baby carriers too. And lots of great 2nd hand deals online. It actually can become quite addictive, especially if you get into woven wraps as then they seem like outfits you need to match with things so you might find yourself starting to want a whole wardrobe of them!
