Re: No spend September check-in

  • I am doing ok. Initially I felt a little bit of withdrawal but I got over that.

confession i did buy something: at back to school night they had a tee shirt fundraiser and I got DD a shirt for $3. I got lost in the moment and realized on the way home.

I have been taking stock of my pantry and fridge and making better decisions at grocery store.

I am having a debate with myself and would love feedback: DD started kindy and came home with a book order sheet. we LOVE books. I am tempted to buy some books. do we need them, no. but learning!

  • @momanddad+3 you are right they will probably send home that scholastic sheet every month. I have a HUGE weakness for books. and these have fall/halloween books which are my favorite. BUT I can also get books from the library and I have about 20 books hidden in the closet for DD already. sigh...

I'm doing pretty good. I had planned expenses for LO's room. Instead of going custom bedding $200+, I went Target and only spent $80. I'll eventually catch a sale with one of my fav etsy shops for super cute sheets, but I can live with store bought. I actually did price comparisons and store bought is almost the same as custom anyway.

I'm also looking for first walking shoes...why are they so expensive?!? Lol

Imo walking shoes are important. Their feet are growing, forming. I never cheap out on shoes

  • I've been staying home a lot and it helps. I haven't spent any money in wants, only needs. I haven't even looked for clothes for LO anymore.

We have eaten out twice, but that's because DH says it's in our budget.

I've gotten over the withdrawal as well. I've been meal planning as well and that helps a lot. I even bake cookies so that we don't have to buy snacks. I've also been freezing food!

Re: the books, I would buy one every other month. Books are important to me and I've always bought DD1 lots of books. She has also passed down her baby and toddler books to LO.

Everyone's been pointing me to Striderite for hard sole shoes. Do you have any recommendations?

    Stride rite is my recommendation

  • Not doing great but I'm definitely more aware of my spending and haven't been buying stuff just because I want it. Got a haircut today and bought shampoo while I was there which was more than I needed to spend, but my hair doesn't do well with store bought shampoo.

  • I am doing well, I haven't bought anything that wasn't already in our plan. We have ate at home each night so far.

About the books I agree and because I have a book problem I tend to only look at about a 3rd of those sheets sent home. They always have the 1$ books and I always feel like I NEED to buy them.

(side note) We are doing the 25 books of Christmas for LO this year so I am totally going to the used book store and seeing if I can find anything there that is not a bad deal. I just bought LO a book at Walmart last month and that thing was 7.19$ I was like dannnng!!! So to keep this Christmas gift/idea on the more economical side second hand books are a must I believe.

@Chillpr and this is just my opinion from having other LO's cheap sheets are fine because they are going to get ruined in the long run, spilled bottles, blow outs and the sickies. I once spent 150$ on my oldest DD's bedding (twin size) with decorative pillows and all. I fully regret that purchase still. I also recommend the StrideRite shoes :)
  • @74dragonfly‌ you can do the 25 books of Christmas too :) Glad I could help you.
  • I have spent way too much this month. I had a pampered chef party, went to a craft show, went to ikea, and then went to sport chek and bought a vest and wind pants. :(. I've basically done "spend September" not "no spend September" ahhhh I think it doesn't help that I sold my car. So I felt like I had some free money which really isn't free money. Lol. I need the cash to pay for my new car once I get it until I'm back at work. STOP SPENDING NOW DANIELLE!!!
