If it were me, I'd go straight to the RE. I wasted a lot of time with a GYN and in retrospect, wish I'd just cut to the chase. You want the best care, from the best provider and you don't want to have to repeat tests if possible. The only reason to see a GYN first is if you have zero coverage for an RE or need a referral.
I went to my OB who performed all initial testing, and eventually my surgery. Her specialty was in laparoscopic surgery so I felt more than comfortable with her doing it. I was at a different OB prior to her, who mainly only dealt with the office stuff and deliveries, and switched after I realized I would need more help. My situation is different, because my insurance at the time would not cover me to see the only REs in our area, so I had no choice. I will say, now that we are approaching IVF and have been seeing the REs, it has been a pain trying to transfer all info and records over, and wondering if something got missed, or overlooked....IMO I would do it all at one place if possible, starting with an RE if you are able to.
Me:30 DH:30
TTC since January 2013
Him: Excellent SA
Me: 2 clear HSG's, perfect 28 day cycle with ovulation, all testing/blood work good
1/23/14- **Surgery**
Diagnosis: severe pelvic adhesions from stage 3/4 endo and old ruptured appendix
If I was TTC and had IF (true and true), I would want my RE to be the one to do the laparoscopy and see inside at what was there (done that) instead of getting it secondhand at some point. I was thrilled for the opportunity for my RE to check on everything himself, and I know that he has a really clear picture of how much my treated endo may or may not continue to affect our IF, so it's easier to follow his lead on how many IUIs, etc.

Thank you ladies! I think I know what I need to do now, or at least the right questions to ask at my OBGyn appointment on Monday. With the lovely military healthcare system, I would have to go back to my PCP and request another referral, which would take at least another two weeks. I am hoping that the OBGyn will be able to refer me. Either way, with the results of yesterday's pelvic MRI along with all other tests results, I am hoping that the OBGyn will at least point me in the right direction. My biggest fear is being strung along by the military healthcare system. Thanks again!
Re: OBGyn vs RE for endo ...and some other stuff
