Any other mamas home waiting? I feel so impatient! Any good ideas to pass the time, house is clean & baby things are all set up. I'm 37 weeks and 5 days :)

Re: Already on maternity leave waiting for my baby to arrive.....

  • I haven't been working since 31.5 weeks. Cleaning, homework (working on finishing my bachelor's degree), cooking, shopping, and playing on The Bump get me through the day. I also recommend taking up a really good book.

  • I'm still at work at 39+2, but debating if I'm going to just stay home starting on due date if she's not here yet.  We'll see!  I've been worthless for a couple weeks now- I sit and check The Bump, and try and mentally will my baby to come out!!  I"m so ready to meet her.

Enjoy the time to relax!  If I were home I would be catching up on TV shows, prepping frozen meals, and reading some books I've had on my Kindle for a while. I want to re-read Gone Girl before the movie comes out!
  • I am a sahm so I have been home for what feels like forever. I would recommend reading or finding a tv show that sparks your interest. I also have had many crafty type projects that I have started and mostly finished! I have become a meal planning maniac and plan everything out at least a month in advance (which I need to go over October and finish up soon!) And of course REST!!! Your body is still working hard and just relax and gear up for when your lo decides it's time.
  • I am home too. 39 weeks 3 days. I watch netflix, nap, cook ect. I am definitely getting stir crazy though.

  • Today is day one of no work for me. I'll find stuff to do for a couple days, but beyond that I see myself going stir crazy if he doesn't come out soon! I hate thinking I could still be at work not using FMLA when he isn't here yet. But oh my god sitting all day with the amount of pressure on my hips was killing me!

  • This is my first week working from home and even that has been a major adjustment for me.  I can't imagine what you all are going through just being home with nothing to do.  Like others have said try taking up a good book, or series or books, TV show/series you missed or watched a long time ago, and make up some food.  When I have a slow day I like to roast a chicken and make homemade chicken soup.  Good luck staying sane!

  • 40 weeks today, have been off for about 2 weeks now. Just cleaning and a lot of little crafts to keep myself busy. ... Trying not to think about the fact that this guy is supposed to be here now!
  • Just want to add, going for walks is also another good way to pass time. It gets me out and makes me feel like I'm doing something to help speed things along. Plus, it's just good for you. And I agree with PP about resting/daily naps... I'm trying to get those in while I can. I've also found that staring at the calendar does the opposite of make time go by fast. :)

  • I am 38 weeks, been off work for a little over a week. When you have a week off of work at home the time goes by so fast, when you are off waiting for a baby time does be so painfully slow!!!! Making sure I leave the house at least once everyday helps. But I am so bored!!!!! I end up watching TV for endless hours everyday!

  • So jealous! I'm working right up to my due date and then taking off. If baby is late and I end up with some spare time, I have a small list. Have lunch with friends, get my hair cut, hang pictures on the wall, see a movie, cook, clean out the fridge. Above all, get out of the house each day and enjoy the milder weather.
  • I agree with Netflix and reading. Just read Gone Girl and it was really good. Definitely one you want to read before you see the movie. I also just watched Call the Midwife on Netflix (originally a BBC show). It was sweet and very timely given what we are waiting on.

  • Oh I wish I was at home. I am working until baby gets here. I'm due on the 17th so if he shows up early or late, I will be working until then. Plus I have been working OT, 10-12 hour days and Saturdays. So yeah, 60 hours a week.

If I were at home I would be reading, walking, crocheting, painting and watching a lot of Netflix. Is there a simple hobby you have always wanted to try and just never got around to? Now might be a nice time to give it a try.

  • I'm still working right up until I'm 39+3. Last time I left three weeks early and died of boredom. This time I'm merely wanting to kill my coworkers.
  • I've been off work since 30 weeks. Read books, clean, do some DIY decor for your home/baby's nursery, take lots of naps. Try out some new recipes and freeze them. Just relax and watch tv/Netflix. Pretty much all I've been doing.

  • I agree with PP's, take naps, watch movies, read, cook etc. Also try doing things you won't get to do as often once baby comes. Go to a restaurant or cafe and eat....alone. It's glorious. Go for a walk, it may help get things started. See a movie in theaters. Just try to relax and have fun (as much as one can have when pregnant and uncomfortable)

  • My due date was Sunday and I have been on leave since then waiting for baby. The first two days were nice and relaxing. Now I am going a little stir crazy, so I made a list of all the chores that I could do and have been rationing them out over the next three days. Induction scheduled for Sunday morning so I just have to keep myself entertained until then. It really helps to have an end date though. Now that I know baby will be here no later than Sunday I feel a little less crazy.

  • Last Friday was my last day at work. I've been busy cleaning, but that's mostly done now. However I might pick some smaller areas to organize (closets, kitchen cabinets, etc). I also got a mani/pedi yesterday, so I suggest that to pass the time ;) too bad I can't do that everyday!

Today I want to clean and organize our freezer. It's pretty small, but I heard family and friends will be bringing us freezer meals so I need to make some room. I also might look into some lactation cookies today.

I'm trying to enjoy every second of alone time while I still have it, too!

  • Me!  Nesting like crazy, ordering baby books, reading up on L&D, bumping, cleaning and organizing, and making a freezer meal.  Mostly lots of resting and naps.

  • Lots of naps, netflix, hulu and yesterday I went and got my nails done which was so nice! I've been feeling sick so my body is telling me to sleep a lot. I feel so lazy!
  • I'm a teacher so I had the whole summer off. Then, on top of that, I didn't go back to work this school year because my district lets you take up to 20 paid sick days before your delivery. You'd think it would be wonderful, but I am so bored. I am due Next Friday but it still seems so far away and I haven't had any prelabor signs. Time is going soooooo slow. Every day I hope to start labor, but it never happens.

I've done a lot to keep busy. I read every book I could get my hands on this summer, but now I'm kind of tired of reading. Lately, I've been working on puzzles. I got a box of 10 Jigsaw puzzles and do one a day. I had all summer to nest and clean. My house is so baby ready, it's crazy! I also have been watching shows on demand like game of thrones and orange is the new black on Netflix.

I kind of wish I went back to work, but it really didn't make sense since I get a paid leave anyway. Can't wait for my LO to get here. There is only sooo much rest and relaxation a person can take. Also, it's not like you can store sleep for later. let's go baby!
  • I spent an entire day meal prepping 15 frozen crock pot dinners...it took forever but I won't have to worry about my dh and ds not having a good dinner when I am recovering because it's already done. They are also super healthy which is great for breastfeeding moms. There's a ton of recipes on Pinterest.
  • Thank you all for the great tips, netflix has been my best friend, it's just that after you're home for more than a week, things tend to get boring. I went to my weekly appt today and so far nothing is going on, my cervix is closed and he's not moving down :/

  • My last day is today, woohoo! We're pretty much ready for baby. Honestly just looking forward to resting a little bit before baby's arrival.
  • I am currently 38w 6d and my last day of work is Monday. We are moving into a new house on Tuesday- talk about crunch time! So I would like to get stuff ready! So jealous of ppl who have nursery ready, meals ready, etc. We have been living with my parents since our house sold and I have to work just to not lose my mind

Oh wow.  You are moving at 39 weeks?!  Congrats on your new home.  It may be tough now, but how great will it be to bring home your little one to your new house.  Best of luck with everything!
