My baby hasn't pooped in four days

My 4-week old hasn't had a bowel movement since Friday. I've been breast feeding and supplementing 2oz of formula each day. She is still passing gas, her stomach seems soft, and she doesn't seem to be struggling.

I don't know what to do. She seems to be perfectly fine, but I'm worried! Any advice for this first time mommy?

  • I asked my pedi about this and she said a breastfed baby can go a week without a bowel movement.

  • Unless LO seems to be in pain don't worry about it. When breastfeed it's normal for them to absorb all the nutrients and only have wet diapers for up to a week. My DS went 3 days without a dirty diaper. Totally normal :)
  • Thanks ladies. I am just worried about every thing that happens to her and every experience. I'm sure it has to do with my pregnancy. I am super paranoid.

  • @hmctagg01 LO was going poop 3-5 times a day before this stretch. DH and I were really worried. She ended up going this morning so Yey (I think) !

  • When our baby didn't poop we were told we were under feeding. The doc used Vaseline on the end of a thermometer maybe just to get the thermometer in but it helped. We did that at home a couple times and it helped.
