Anyone started their baby library yet? Any books you had to have from your childhood? My mother-in-law brought down my husband's beloved mr. Man books this weekend. Here are mine.
My friends had a "books n brunch" baby shower for me so we stocked up on a ton of books! It has been fun to open them and see who the book is from and read the message to DD. Our TJ Maxx moved locations recently so I got a lot of Sandra Boynton books. I love her!
So far I've bought a ton of Golden Books and Dr. Seuss books. I put these on my registry to make the conservatives in my life squirm and because I genuinely want these in my child's library:
My favorite is The Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman. It's fantastic. I read it to my boys every night and we all still love it. They each think it's about them It's my favorite baby shower gift.

I adore the Nancy Tillman books! On The Night You Were Born is by far my favorite. I've been reading it to DD since even before she was born, and then every night before bedtime for a couple of years. We took about a year break from reading it and then lately she has been asking me to read her the "night before the moon" book (what she calls it), so we've started up again! I've shed many tears reading the Nancy Tillman books to her because they are just so dang sweet!
Also, my mom gave me all of my Little Golden Books from when I was a kid (at least 100 lol).
I already have a ton of books from my University days because I took three children's lit courses (and I am a bit of book junkie). Top that off with the fact the BFF works at a kids bookstore and I think she has single handedly aquired an entire library for me... we're pretty set books wise.
Library is actually the theme of our nursery. I'm using cover art from classic books as all my artwork and scored some Very Hungry Caterpillar fabric for accents.
I just bought three books the other day at Target - two Frozen books and one princess storybook - I told DH I HAD to get them now because I was afraid they would go out of print. He let me
My boys have a pretty extensive library because my sister did the "book instead of a card" at my baby shower. (sorry, BSB!) Some of their favorites are The Pokey Little Puppy, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug (pretty much all Eric Carle books), If You Give a Pig a Pancake, The Cat in the Hat, Harold and the Purple Crayon.
Another way that I have gotten good deals on great books is buying the Kohl's Cares for Kids books that they put out about every 3-4 months. I always buy them to give as baby shower gifts, too. They are all popular authors, each hardback book is only $5 (books that would probably be $15+ elsewhere), and the money goes to a children's charity. That is where I got all my Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Curious George and Clifford books. Right now they have the Little Critters books.
I am a book addict kids teens adults doesn't matter... I have bought baby a nursery rhyme book that my girls read to him at night. its helping my daughters reading (she struggles with short term memory so repetition is great) and I had read an article about babies in utero when they are read the same nursery rhyme or played the same song they recognize after born and it helps to sooth them even if its a strangers voice
I'm a huge book nerd so we have most of the classics. I also love finding new titles; some great ones you might not know: Little Owl's Night, Little Bear's Little Boat, and I Love You Stinky Face.
I loved a book called The Wuggie Norple Story growing up but haven't found it anywhere - it went out of print a while ago.
When any friends or family have babies, I always get them Where the Wild Things Are. I also love the classics like Runaway Bunny, Goodnight Moon, and I'll Love You Forever.
Love these!!
We have around 20 books that we've bought.. we get 1 book every week I turn another week We've done it from the start. And we have some books that others have given us.. my BFF is a huge reader and picks up books here and there and mails them to us. So she had a pretty good book collection already!

DH had some books from when he was a kid. We bought few books new. But mostly we went to the used book store and bought a lot of books. They had a lot of Rugrats books, which was cool because it was my favorite as a kid. And we found Stella Luna which was DH's favorite book.
We have so many books! We bought 99% of them from garage sales or goodwill. We have quite the variety of things from the classics to modern disney princesses!
I'm glad we bought our books used because my kid is hard on her books! They definitely look used and abused now.
DS has a big eccentric library most books bought second hand. I just bought a bunch at a ymca book fair where the kids books were sold by the inch (of how wide the spine was). I bought like 13 books for $3.50.
Favorites of ours: Big Red barn good night good night construction site steam train dream train Puppies and piggies 10 little ladybugs
honeybeee3 that book is best in the audio version. It just wouldn't be the same without Samuel L. Jackson's voice
Whattttt?! That's amazing! I will have to get it!
You can youtube it and listen (clicky) I loved reading this at a friend's shower...too funny! We have some, but my friends are doing the "book in lieu of a card" at my shower, so we'll get lots more then as well as from my sister-in-law who has hundreds of books from her kids (she's a reading fanatic). We have the bookshelves all made and up in the nursery, so I can't wait to fill them to the brim and cannot wait for him to enjoy his reading nook one day...or use the shelves as awesome drop tests for his cars and trains?? Ha!

My absolute favorite is one my grandmother had made for me. The characters are named after me & my cousin and the story is about going to the zoo.
