December 2014 Moms

So, I vomited my gluclose drink all over the Dr's floor.

Last night, I had some vision issues and woke up with a headache. This happened before around 18 weeks, so I knew I was dehydrated.
Had growth scan at 10, and he is a fatty! 2 lbs @ 24 weeks. They were worried his size might mean GD, so we went for the glucose test.

I had jelly beans to do the tst but she said I had to eat 25 in 3 minutes, which isn't going to happen so I decided to try the drink.
I chugged it down in 5 instead of 3, but i got it all down. I started crying, telling my husband I needed to walk, it hurt.
Then I vomited all over the floor. Then I hit the wall, blood pressure monitor, and sink.

Tey checked my BP and it was low, 80/50, and my HR was 120, so I had my OB appointment where I found out I will likely need  c-section because of my autoimmune disease, and then she sent me to L&D for a full workup and monitoring. I got a bag of fluids, some tylenol 3, and instructions to drink my water (which I have been!)

It was a super fun day.

Also, a/w, but my husband was with me, as well as a 6 month old I do childcare for. He was a trooper and took care of the baby all day so I could lay around and not do it in L&D. I know if it were OUR kid, he would have but it was super sweet he was wiling to care for someone elses kid while *I* am getting paid for it.

  • Sorry for this awfulness. Sounds horrendous. Glad your DH was there to take care of your and your daycare charge.

Stay in bed and get hydrated!

  • Whoa! Rest up lady!

  • It is so weird to me that they made you chug the drink so fast! I have always been told 10 minutes (for both one hour and the three hour). I would puke too if I had to drink that fast. Yucky!!

I am so sorry you got so sick. I hope they get you feeling better soon.
  • Ugh, sorry to hear that. I had to do the tests early, and I also threw up shortly after drinking the Glucola. It was so upsetting, knowing that I had to go back and do it again. Good luck, and hope you feel better soon!

  • That's awful! That drink really is nasty. Kudos to DH for stepping up! I hope you're feeling better now.
  • Oh man! Can't even imagine how yucky you felt! Hope you feel better.
  • My friend threw up after hers. As if that drink isn't miserable enough! Hope you're feeling better after such a shitty day.

  • I asked if I could get jelly beans(25 in 3 minutes, no problem!!!) but they made me drink the fruit punch drink. Ugh, it was awful! Probably because I had to fast this time(though I never did with my other two) and felt yucky afterwards.

Obviously, not as yucky as you though. At least you got through it and are okay. And that was exceptionally sweet of your hubby to watch the baby!
  • Ugh, I'm sorry! Rest up tonight!

That sounds rough! Definitely rest up and feel better!

ETA: I'm surprised they told you 3 minutes. My last pregnancy when I took the test they told me 10 minutes. Sounds like a nurse got her time wrong. Maybe it was the 3 minutes for the jellybeans and she forgot to tell you the time for the drink? Either way that sucks

  • @dtremel - FWIW, I really didn't think the drink tasted that bad - mine basically tasted like hyped up capri sun. Hopefully they give it to you cold. It's much better to down that way, I hear!
  • I'm pretty sure this qualifies you for a massage! Poor lady! Hope you are on the mend soon.

  • How did you have time for all of that? I mean... aren't you supposed to be working on the FB group? Psh... :P

My worst fear is feeling like I have to throw up after drinking the glucola... I feel for yah and hope you're feeling better!
@MissChristineMarie, thats why it's so late getting opened, haha
  • What is this jelly bean concept you speak of? I'm sorry you had a bad day
They offered to let me have 25 jelly beans (50 grams of sugar) instead of the drink, apparently it works exactly the same!
  • MJLovey said:
Whoa...hold up.  You can eat jelly beans for the GD test??  I can totally put down 25 jelly beans in 3 minutes.  Is this a normal offering at OB offices?  I'd be all about Jelly Bellies.
I had googled it, and found a lot of info about it! I did have to take my ownJB's though. My Dr suggested Brachs but I took some cheap brand.
  • Sorry your day has been so rough!  I hope you're feeling better.

Side note... 25 Jelly Beans in 3 minutes?  Are we talking the real candy here?  Because I could eat more than that in 3 minutes...
Ugh, not me! I could maybe get down 10.

Orange. The flavor wasn't bad at all! I had gastric bypass in 03 and I just cant tolerate drinking that fast!
  • Thanks for the love, ladies!

I hope none of you have a bad time with it. I am about 100% sure my headache and combined ouch from gastric bypass I had in 03 contributed!
  • Whole crap that's a bad experience glad your back around so hopefully doing much better then earlier.
Man you would think that they can put a man on the moon certain things like the glucose test would be easier then they are *smh* gesh!
