transition from swaddle

My LO (3 1/2 months) has been busting out of his swaddle several times a night now... as soon as we reswaddle him he goes pretty much right back to sleep. I'm not sure if it's time to transition him out or if he still needs it considering we've tried to let him be after he breaks out, but very rarely will he fall back asleep... Curious what other moms have done!

We went cold turkey and just stopped swaddling DD with her arms in and she's been doing fine. We still wrap the swaddle (halo sleep sack) tight around her chest which I think is comforting for her. You could try doing one arm out to start. I also have some friends who swear by the Magic Merlin Sleepsuit.

Was she busting out of the swaddle or why did you go cold turkey? I would do that my only concern is as soon as we put him back in the swaddle he goes back to sleep...

She is starting to roll so we were going to have to stop swaddling soon. We also moved her to her crib from the RNP so we figured we'd do everything at once (crib transition and no swaddle). She doesn't take a pacifier and lately she's been sucking on her hands, so I think its better that they're free and she can self-soothe with them.

We started double swaddling DD around 2 months old when she started busting out. She definitely wasn't ready to sleep without it. She's going to be 4 months this week and we just started doing 1 arm out. Last night was night #2. Both nights so far she did wake up and cry for about 3 minutes on, 3-5 minutes off for about 20 minutes before she put herself back to sleep. Once we can get a few nights in a row with no crying this way we'll start both arms out. Then we'll probably use sleep sacks.

We went cold turkey before our trip last month, I thought she was pretty ready to be done and it was one less thing to mess with while on vacation. It took a couple nights for her arms to totally stop flailing but each night got easier and easier. We don't use a sleep sack only footie pjs.

I tried a few times before and she just wasn't ready, her startle reflex was just to strong still. It might take a couple nights but you will get there! She sleeps in a cosleeper right next to me to I was able to sleep with her just next to me and hold her arms down if necessary till she fell back asleep.

We had a terrible time transitioning dd from the swaddle.

Baby Merlin's Magic Sleep Suit did the trick.

I just ordered a zippy from zipadeezip because so many people rave about them. We tried one arm and it didn't work. Then cold turkey and he was fine for two days and then nope back to swaddling. He cries when I do swaddle him for about 2 min then knocks out. I know he's done with it but he can't fall asleep. So here's praying!

Cold turkey. Went from swaddle to button up nightgown. He's in his four month sleep regression so I figured we wasn't sleeping anyway... Might as well break the swaddle habit. I'll let you know when the hell is over.

@DH09072012‌ our got delivered last night and I put on him and he was out! Yay! Except we started 4 month sleep regression and he was up every three hours.. I know it wasn't the zippy because he was out in like 5 min after I put it on but he hasn't been up that much since he was 7 weeks old! Yeah that was fun.. Good luck I know it will work!

Yay!! We love it too! I'm gonna buy another one for the winter months also! I wouldn't buy that funny looking Merlin suit thing. It just looked funny after watching the video and uncomfortable! Lol @DH09072012‌
