Pregnant after IF

~*~ 2nd Tri Check-in (9/9) ~*~

This is a weekly check-in for PAIF members in their second trimester. You can feel free to join at 14 weeks and we will bid you an excited farewell on your way to 3rd Tri after 27 weeks.

I'm still quite busy this week, so please pardon the late posting and the lack of personal updates.  I should be getting my life back after tomorrow and have more time starting next week, so I will try to resume the personal notes.  But please stop on by and tell us all how you're doing!

If there are any newcomers that would like to be added to the list, post below and include your EDD.

- How far along are you this week?
- Any appointments or other updates?

Also, please let me know if I have your “team” listed correctly or if it needs to be updated.

QOTW: It's September, which means television series are coming back soon!  Which ones are you looking forward to most?

***Graduating to the 3rd Tri next week!!! Good Luck***

  • Hi ladies!
17w1d over here. Feeling pretty good, just chugging along.
My mom came up last week with her BF to help paint our fence. She took me to PBKs & we ordered the crib. Eek! I was super excited. I realize it's early, but she doesn't get to come visit all that often bcshe helps my brother with his kids every other weekend. We also got most of the bedding, the mattress & an adorable pillow. And one of our friends mailed us our mobile as an early congrats gift. It just came today & it totally made my afternoon :)
As for tv, we are pretty lame. There's nothing I am really excited to watch.

  • Hi everyone,

I will be 23 weeks tomorrow!  I just had an appointment this past Monday and we listened to baby's heart beat via doppler.  They gave me a list of local classes (but we are already signed up) and got my yummy drink for the GD test.  I'll be testing next week at 24 weeks because of family history of GD.  Really hoping and praying I don't have it, if I do, she said breastfeeding reduces chances of developing diabetes by 50%!

Haven't done much baby stuff since school started, I'm taking pathophysiology this semester and have an exam every single week (except Thanksgiving...woohoo!).  PGD may be on my exam this week, we are studying genetics :P

Hubby is now negotiating with dealers to buy our family car.  Can't wait to get the car ordered :)

And my work scrubs are starting to get tight, was asked by a patient's mom if I was pregnant, I should have said no to see her reaction lol.  So I went out and increased my maternity wardrobe from 2 shirts to 5 shirts (got 3 shirts off Target clearance rack for 8 bucks and under) and a pair of jeans for 17.00.  Really trying to get by in my regular clothes, I'm cheap when it comes to clothes!  Think I'll start wearing them to work and wear a scrub jacket over it.  Maternity scrub tops seems like it might not be worth it, I could at least reuse the jackets!

QOTW:  Walking Dead, Homeland, Scandal...I love tv :)

  • I'm 21 weeks today. On Sunday evening, I felt baby kicking very hard so I told my dh to put his hand there to see if he could feel her and he did! It was so cool! I'm a plus size girl so I though we had a ways to go before all this happened! But weirdly enough, I've been going through this pregnancy almost like a normal sized girl ... I'm astonished! Also we have a doc appt and a/s part 2 tomorrow. I'm really hoping for a good pic!

QOTW: This will be long as I'm a bit of a tv-holic! :) homeland. Newsroom, Once upon a time, Revenge, Brooklyn 9-9, big bang, scorpion - looks good, the originals, the blacklist, Mindy project, forever - looks good, modern family, the goldbergs, nashville, black-ish - looks funny, mysteries of Laure - looks good, scandal, how to get away with murder - looks good, reign, gracepoint, last man standing, shark tank, & sons of anarchy

I'm pretty sure that's not everything and that I won't have time for all this when baby comes but until then this will deff pass the time!

Over the weekend I ended up in the ER with what turned out being a kidney infection from a UTI, but during the whole stay we ended up finding out the sexes of the babies, and we are Team Purple!  We have been beyond excited.  Our A/S is Tuesday and a OB appt. on Wed,  so I am happy we get to look at our little ones again.  We were so surprised to find out that our super active baby was our little girl, and the passive baby is our little boy, we figured it would have been the opposite.

I have an appointment Friday for my GD test, hospital registration, and regular check-up.  I started a prenatal aquatics class last night, and it was amazing!  It was so nice to float... but I felt so cold and heavy when I got out LOL!  Not much else to report on.  Wishing all of the ladies in their 2nd tri lots of luck!!

  • Update: 25w5d. I successfully changed practices last week! I went from an OB group with a 40 percent c-section rate at a hospital I wasn't thrilled with to a midwife group with a 6 percent c-section rate at a hospital that is much more supportive of natural childbirth. The best news is that I'm able to keep my same MFM--he's affiliated with both practices :)

  • @southernyankeegirl- thanks for the great check in, If you find yourself needing a break one week just let me know I can fill in for you if you ever need me to! (my schedule has opened up)

I am now 22 weeks and can feel my babies moving more and more! I love it! But its making me very impatient to get to actually hold them! :)

Well this week has by far been the most stressful week of my pregnancy! I am so thankful that the babies are still healthy so I have a lot to be thankful for! But as for my job, I have been a nurse in my position for only 8mo and last Fri I went to work and couldnt even get done with two patients before I was so out of breath, heart racing, weak, and faint that I had to keep sitting down to keep from falling out. Needless to say I realized I had come to the point that I was not going to be able to tolerate the same work load as I had been. But I went to my Drs Office he sent me to L&D and I stayed there while they ruled out anything wrong with my heart or a blood clot or my thyroid. All checked out fine. But anyway when I told my director I was going to need accommodations she pretty much told me then that she couldnt make any (really she could if she wanted to but she isnt even trying). Now Im waiting on human resources to see if they can find me a light duty position, which they are not very promising about. Ive cried until my eyes just hurt and Im exhausted I really didnt think they would throw me to the wolves just because Im pregnant with twins and need adjustments! I know it will all be okay its just going to be hard for a while because my husband will be doing A LOT of overtime.

That's my rant and hopefully next week Ill be in better spirits :)

QOTD: I cannot wait for vampire diaries and once upon a time! :)

  • @MKateG‌ - that sucks so bad! Look into the Americans with Disabilities Act. There isn't a ton of law to protect pregnant women, though every state is different, but some have found protection under ADA for reasonable accommodations. Also, record EVERYTHING - after any conversation, send yourself a quick email with as much specific detail as possible of what was said by whom. If you ever feel the desire to move forward with a discrimination suit (or just threaten one if you want to get accommodations or a fair severance package) it will be invaluable to have time stamped recordings of what was said (email basically proves you wrote it when the conversation was fresh in your mind).

  • @mKateG So sorry to hear about all the issues you are having.  Anyway you can be charge nurse instead of working the floor?  Not sure about your unit, but my adult and now peds unit, charge does not take patients.  At my hospital, nurses who can't work the bedside for medical reasons sometimes will be on work restrictions and can do pt sitting instead (sitting with suicide patients etc. throughout the hospital).  It is part of our return to work program for injured nurses etc.  That might be an option (just make sure they don't put you with combative patients).  My unit also has release time (projects and things that need to get done, so nurses get business time instead, to work on unit website/develop posters/educational materials).  I also know of some nurses who had things like high blood pressure and need to take short term disability before they delivered.  There are definitely options.  Are you a new nurse with 8 months experience or have you been with your institution a long time?  I know where I work, you can't do short term disability until 2 years in but maybe you can do leave without pay if you can afford it.  A couple of suggestions for your manager, they should at least work on giving you lighter assignments and rooms that are close together so you don't have to walk as far.  Also did you ask for 8s instead of 12s? You should also be put on lifting restrictions etc.  Do you have a union?  My union is amazing, if you do, you can always contact them for assistance as well.  My job has been good so far, that crazy enterovirus is starting to hit pediatrics and we have so many droplet kids admitted right now.  They have been good giving me a full assignment (not risking my empty bed will be filled with a droplet kid) and giving me lighter assignments (have gotten to take care lots of babies lately :)).  Not sure if this was helpful, oh the lives of us nurses!

    @Wolfette139 Rest up girly!

  • Sorry for checking in late again, life has been pretty hectic for us.

26w3d here, am I really moving to 3rd tri next week?  I'm still confused if 3rd tri starts at 27 or 28 weeks.  I know the 3rd tri check-in post says you can join at 28 weeks.

I had a regular OB appt yesterday and all is well.  I noticed my BP is no longer low like before but still normal.  I'm measuring on track and LO had a strong HB.  They gave me the orange drink and I'm gonna go back in 2 weeks to get my blood drawn and get the Tdap shot.

We're on our way to our babymoon today (plus my bday next week)!  DH and I will be in FL till next Wednesday.  It's been pretty cool in New England this summer and I look forward to the heat and the sun.   We'll try to do some DIY maternity pictures with DH's camera.  I also scheduled a 3d ultrasound next Monday in FL, since DH and I will be busy when we come back from vacation.  Can't wait to see LO's face.

QOTW: I can't wait for the new season of Big Bang Theory to start!  Penny and Leonard fan here =)

@dp21 thanks for the suggestions but yea I mentioned shorter shifts but I think starting now I'm on bed rest, I had I know three or four contractions tonight and have lower back pain and mentral like crampy feeling, my brother who is a PA and his wife lost twins at 21weeks so he ordered me to stay in the bed and not move for two weeks at least.I'm going to call the on call dr and see what they think as soon as my parents get here but they are two hours away and DH is at work 45 mins away. But I really think my director could have found things for me to do she just didn't want to fit it in to her schedule or budget. She pretty much screwed me but when I go back I'm def going to one of the icu's because i HATED floor nursing. And yea I'm a new nurse with just 8mo experience. But it still seems like my director would have looked out for me a little better.

Still have a lot to clean up in the nursery which I'm going to be starting with very soon. My next apt is Tuesday and I'm assuming I'll be doing the glucose test soon. We also booked a small over night baby moon at a fancy resort locally for massages and dinner and to use their pool and facility so looking forward to that next weekend.

  • 21w2days here. Yay! I haven't checked in in a few weeks but we had our anatomy scan 2 weeks ago and it was SO neat to she her little kidneys/bladder/gallbladder/spine, etc. How amazing right!? Left the office with LOTS of pics. I have another appointment in 1.5 weeks.... The appointments are usually really "boring". I'll be honest though, I feel HAPPY about that. Feeling the baby often! So fun to grow a baby I will say! :)

Glad to see everyone is doing good. :)

QOTD: Modern family, The middle, Bachelor/Bachelorette I'm so bummed out that Mistresses won't be back on for a while! Boooo!
