Sleep training big fat fail

I'm feeling so defeated. I have read every sleep book out there and DH and I started the ferber method 3 nights ago. LO is getting better at going down awake but he is also tired at bedtime that this was never really our problem. It's currently 330am and we have been doing timed crying for 30 min. This baby just doesn't want to sleep at night. He's not hungry I already fed him twice in the past two hours and he's dry. He fell asleep at 630 tonight so he was already asleep for 8 hours by 230 am. I'm afraid that he just isn't tired anymore and I'm torturing him trying to force him to sleep more. For the life of me I cannot get him to stay up later at night he is he grumpiest baby ever by 6pm. I hate this.

  • Could you get him to nap between 5:00-600 pm then wake him and have him stay up a little longer?

  • Babies just go through phases like this. I doubt ts that he's slept enough and is done now.

  • When DD awakes at 2:30-3:00 am the only thing that works is nursing or cuddling her.  She is not awake because she wants to be awake.  She is awake because she wants me.

  • I know exactly how you feel... we've been having nights like this recently, too. I don't have any advice for you. We tried Ferber, also, but it was making things worse. I think that was a sign DS isn't ready for it quite yet... we'll try again soon.

Last night, no joke, he slept in his magic merlin suit IN the rock n play. I was desperate and I'm pretty sure that is the craziest/unsafest thing ever.. BUT he slept straight from 9:30pm - 4:40am and it was amazing. So right now I'm doing anything I can to get him to sleep and I'll worry about "training" him when he's a little bit older.

  • My cutie has to take a nap between 5 or 6 to go down at 8 so sleeps for 30 to 1hr... I would try letting him nap then, then he is awake for 1hr then We do bath lotion feed down and he sleeps till 5 sometimes he'll go back down sometimes he has had enough rest and we are up either way I would try to put him down for a nap and then bed.... To me 630 it's to early.... But that's just me

  • We are 5 nights into fade away sleep training. I couldn't handle any of the methods tell you to ignore cries. But siting in a chair next to her and (mostly) refusing to pick up or nurse but using occasional touch / talking to sooth seems to be helping. We're down from on average 8 night waking a to 3 (in 12 hours!) so that's pretty amazing. Maybe for night wakings yours is not quite ready to do it alone, but could handle a compromise?
