I didn't end up going with a travel system because I wanted to get a convertible car seat to save money so we still need a stroller. Any good recommendations for baby strollers? I don't need anything fancy, just something safe for a newborn and somewhat economically reasonable. Thanks!

Re: Which stroller/carriage are you going with?
I've heard great things about the Baby Jogger City Mini- easy to use, more compact when it is folded, etc. You usually can find the previous year's model on sale for less than $200. Do you have a baby store near by that carries a wide selection of strollers? That really is the best way to decide b/c you can play around with each one and figure out which will work best for you.
I though hard about getting a Baby Jogger City Select before our first and decided against it b/c I wasn't sure if we were definitely going to have a second so it seemed like a lot to spend for one kid. In retrospect, I wish that I would have invested in it b/c our older son will ride in a stroller and we could make it a double. So definitely think about your current and potential future use!
I have to say the City Mini is the best thing since sliced bread. It folds up one handed and is so light, you can unfold it one-handed too. The thing is 16 lbs (sans car seat or kiddo). I'm super pumped to use it. I was pushing/maneuvering it around the apartment with one-finger!
We are city parents though, so these things are extremely important to us. You'd have to check with the manufacturer (and recommendations from your pediatrician), about when you can put the baby in the stroller without the carseat since you won't be able to fit the convertible in this one. (FYI, i did a lot of research on this and most regular strollers aren't compatible with anything besides infant car seats, up to 30-35 lbs).
We have a chicco stroller that we used with DS1. It laid completely flat but we mostly used it with the infant seat. It folded easily, but it really was bulky and pretty heavy. Took up too much space in the truck of our accord. But it was great for the broken pavements that are all over the place here in Texas.
Like PP said, though, if you're not getting an infant carrier, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use most strollers right off the bat with a newborn. The City Mini has an adapter that you need to make it work with (most) infant carriers, but check with your pedi about when it's okay to put an infant directly into a stroller.
I have a City Mini and Chicco KeyFit30, but you would prob benefit from a stroller that has a bassinet attachment. UppaBaby Vistas are crazy popular here in my city, if you're willing to fork over the $700+ for it.
