Hey guys!! Active Duty

I found out I was pregnant on Labor Day! Ironic but cute. Hubby and I are both active duty army and this is our first baby! I'm 7 weeks exactly today and have my first appointment, but it's a "group appointment" or some sort of orientation to the OB? Anyone else in the military know anything about it? I know they give out prenatals and some other stuff and rumor has it there is a lab at the end of the meeting... Lab!!? I already got blood work so I don't know what the lab could be for!
We are so so excited.. I won't get my first ultrasound until 7 October. By then I'll almost be 11 weeks.. Cannot wait! Hope this baby sticks around. Had an early MC about a year ago. So far so good!

Re: Hey guys!! Active Duty

  • Congratulations and welcome! :) I'm no help with military stuff, all civilians in this house (and the ones DH and I grew up in).

  • Congrats!!!  No personal advice but there is a military families board under the specialties tab so you could ask over there.  I bet they would know what the lab is for.
  • Congrats and welcome!

  • Congrats! My hubby and I are both military as well. I don't have my first apt until Sept. 25th so I'm not much of a help yet.
  • I will let you know how today goes! What do they have you doing for PT? I'm in a PLT full of boys and haven't gotten a profile for pregnancy PT yet (probably get that today), so I just go to morning formation and then head home cause they don't know what to do with me! Lol
  • No advice from this civilian, but Welcome and congrats!

  • At our MTF the orientation was where there was a group of you - they showed a short film  on pregnancy - you filled out paperwork, went to the lab for bloodwork and then did a dating ultrasound and then scheduled your next appt.

  • They didn't do an ultra sound, but I filled out a bunch of paperwork and got prenatals and some nasea stuff and some pregnancy books. Then they did do some more blood tests but I get those results at my ultra sound appointment which is next month. They figured I'm 7 weeks today and gave me the due date of April 28! I may not have a May baby but we will see! :):):) it was weird being in a group full of pregnant people but I'm so excited!
  • No advice but congrats!

My husband is Active Duty, and I just went to OB Orientation last Friday! A lady from Tricare came and talked about special circumstances, a nurse led a class with basic pregnancy info and shared about how the process typically works at that particular hospital. Another lady had us fill out lots of paperwork in our charts. We also had to put our info labels on every sheet of paper in our charts...it seems like that probably should've been someone else's job. Gotta love the military. It was strange being in a room full of other women and acknowledging my "secret" pregnancy. I did labs (lots of blood work, a urine test) and was given prescription prenatals. My first appointment with the doctor is at 10-12 weeks. They said there would be a pap and an ultrasound.

Welcome and congrats! I hope you have a good experience at orientation :)

  • Just wanted to say congrats. :) My husband is Active Duty Air Force. I have no idea how any of this works. This is our first child and since we just PCS'd, we have to get the process started on this end. I'm going to have to check out the military board to see what's going on there. Exciting! :)

  • Congratulations!  Welcome to the board.  I don't have any knowledge of how military stuff works so I can't be any help there.
