  • Had 1st baby at 19 now he is 37 with obvious large age gap in our kids. He is much more hands on with our newest addition. Soon he will have a little girl to shower with special daddy love.
  • My H had just turned 37 when our first was born. He will have just turned 41 when this LO is born. Obviously we are older parents but it's not uncommon around here and I don't think either of us ever feel weird. I don't think he's ever gotten any weird looks.

  • I'm 34 and H is 32 (33 on 12/2, right before LO is born, I hope).  We had been trying for 2.5 years before we did IVF, so this baby is totally planned.  H is super-excited to be a dad.  He's been working real hard on getting the room ready, and he talks to her every day.  His best friend's wife is due any minute now, and most of my friend's already have kids.  People would ask us all the time when we were going to start having kids, which is invasive and impolite on its own, nevermind when you're dealing with people who experience IF.

  • DH will be 33 when LO arrives. I’m not worried about the age gap, I think a man’s personality could affect how he approaches fatherhood s more than age. DH’s father was 42 when DH was born (he is the youngest of five) and he never had a really really close relationship with his dad. DH has never told me of any hobbies or one on one activities him and his dad would do regularly. I don’t mean any of this to come across as if my FIL wasn’t a good dad, he was a great dad he just didn’t have that close connection with DH. I honestly think it wouldn’t have mattered whether my FIL was 22 or 42 when DH was born my FIL would have been the same.

  • We were both 24 when we had our first. This one he will be 27 and I will be 26. He was a great first time dad and a lot of our friends were having kids around the same time. Some might say we were young, but we've always been very family oriented.

Oh I agree it's more dependent on the person. This is sheerly out of curiosity.

When did mid to late 20s become "young"?  I always thought that was the normal starting age group growing up.  Hell, half my friends married and had babies right outta college at 21 which seems crazy to me now.
Right? I'm 26 and people act like I'm "still so young" for this. Really? My DH's mom had three kids by my age. But it takes forever to get life going these days thanks to the economy and all. I have a lot of friends who have been forced to wait much longer than they really wanted to just so they could have all their ducks in a row first.

  • DH is 27, I'll be 25 next month. We don't get comments about being too young. Everyone has been excited for us because they know DH has been begging me for a baby basically since we got together ;) We just had our first wedding anniversary on Sunday, so we have had a few people comment that we should've enjoyed being newlyweds longer... but we've been together about 5 yrs and have lived together for about 4 yrs so haven't felt much different being married.
  • DH is 47 and I am 26. Big difference I know. This is the first marriage and first child for both of us. While being older will present challenges later, for now it means we get to get started and be very comfortable financially. Plus, he is so damn excited about this baby it is ridiculous (not that him being older matters as far as his excitement level).

Now I am 32 and husband is 35 (my second - his first).

Don't worry about what others think... pros and cons to being younger and older- neither is right or wrong. :)
  • DH was 23 and I was 27. He was amazing with DD. I even went abroad for 6 weeks when she was about 18 months old and he was amazing with her.

  • My ex-husband was 21 when we had our first. We married very young. We were both pretty mature for our age, but we lived a very different life that was very much part of a cult. Our culture placed a lot of importance on specific principles and lifestyle choices. He took to being a father very well, but he was away a lot on deployments, school or training, so there was a huge chunk of time he wasn't home. But when he was home he helped out a lot, was loving, affectionate, etc.

My now husband is 36, and this is his first. He's definitely anxious and nervous because until we met he wasn't sure he'd ever get married, let alone have a child. A lot of his friends have kids, but he's also lived a sort of solitary and laid back life.

  • Here's one for ya!

So H had his first & only 23 years ago & he was 29. We both were divorced for many years when we met, so this LO is definitely like starting from scratch lol H will be a couple months shy of 53 when she's born and I will be 34. H was absolutely hesitant with having another because of his age. It's been amazing to see his enthusiasm from the moment we got our BFP! We both can't wait to discover our newborn ways together.
  • DH turns 41 next month and I will be 35 just a few weeks before LO is born. This is his first and he is deffinetly more hard on himself about his age than anyone else. Age is just a number and does not defy how one will be as a parent no matter if you are a young or "older."
  • 26 (exactly a month away from 27 with the first) and this time he will be 28.

  • First timers here! DH is 23, and I'm 22. We will be celebrating our 2 year anniversary a few weeks before Baby H gets here!
  • 29 for first, 37 for this one.
  • My husband and I will both be 24 when this baby is born, we both will be 25 in Feb. This is our second baby, we were 22 when DD was born. She was not planned but we had already known we were going to get married we had just wanted to wait til after college. We got married right away, were able to buy a beautiful house and start a successful company all before DD was born. We worked our asses off and it was really hard but we are so much better off for it, and we are SO ready and excited for DD2 to get here. I have a few girlfriends who have babies the same age as our DD, but we are the only couple in our close group of friends that are married and having kids.
  • MH will be 31 and I am 29. He is so ready for this baby. We have had two close calls, which I think got him mentally prepared to be a father. Now that we have a sticky baby, he is so excited! He actually likes to go baby clothes shopping with me. He wants to make sure I get him "cool" clothes that a boy would like (I pick out all sweater vests and stuff with penguins).

  • DH will have just turned 35 and I am/will be 33 when LO is born. Among our friends and family, many already have a baby (or 2) but many don't, so it's no surprise.  We've been married 2+ years.

This would be an interesting poll.  Also, there are studies that show advanced ages for both parents can be a factor (https://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/27/health/mental-illness-risk-higher-for-children-of-older-parents-study-finds.html?_r=0).  I agree with others here that there are pluses and minues to being young, old, or anywhere in between.  I for one would have thought at 22 that I'd have much more in the bank at my age now than I do, but I am a lot wiser :)

  • My hubby is 23 and he is so excited. He helped raise his little sisters as a teen, so he has some idea of what we are getting into with our LO. I'm 5 years older, and I was fully expecting to be married and with child at a younger age, but it took a while to find Mr. Right (who apparently was still a kiddo himself when I was looking in my early 20's). Anyways, we both feel young and are happy to be starting our family!

  • This is our first! SO will be 33 in mid January, I am only 25... so I've definitely had comments about how young I am and am the first in my circle of college friends to have a kid and only the second of my close child hood friends to have a kid. It wasn't planned, but we are thrilled and I feel as prepared as most first time Moms. :D

  • DH will be 41 when LO is born, I'll be 29.  We're both first time parents.  DH is a very young 41, though he does talk about being an older father from time to time (example -> "I really need to be better at regular exercise so that I can keep up with LO").

This post did give me a light bulb moment, though.  DH and I only ever talked about wanting one child, but he has spent the last few weeks talking about a second.  In fact, his ideal would be to start trying at 6 months postpartum.  I'm not convinced of that timeline or the fact that I want to do this again at all...and before now, I couldn't figure out why DH all the sudden wanted to go by such a quick timeline.  But duh - he's probably thinking about his age.

  • Wow, I'm the baby of the group it looks like. Funny, back when I checked in on baby centers forums they had a similar thread and most were teens, I didn't feel so young. Haha. Anyways! Me and my husband will both be 21 when LO arrives. We married at 19 and this is a rainbow baby for us. We lost our first last December and we are overjoyed at welcoming this little guy. In our circle of friends and family our age isn't abnormal for babies, but we also have been together 5 years, have careers/are financially stable and have been married over a year. I know that's not the norm for 21. :P
We couldn't be more excited for the stage of life we're in though, even if most hit it a little later on.
