It's AML:UPDATE

DH's Uncle has AML. At least that's what they suspect at this point. They are treating it, but that type of leukemia progresses extremely quickly and is nasty. They will be talking to the oncologist tonight and should get more details/a prognosis then. But it does not look good at this point. I'm trying to hold it together until DS goes down for his nap in a few hours.

The oncologist gave him a 15% chance of survival. He is receiving chemo, but he has pneumonia and his kidneys are failing so it's pretty hard to know whether the chemo is going to work at all. So we are hoping for a miracle but preparing for the worst.

    Thanks everyone. DH just sent a text of a picture of his Uncle's computer screen. He has a photo saved of him holding L when L was just a couple weeks old at his first Thanksgiving. He also has that same photo on his TV stand in a frame. He lives alone in TX. DH and his cousin are very close to him, but for the most part he's a really private person. The fact that he has pictures of LO up in his house means so, so much to me. DH and his family are trying to find any outstanding bills that need to be paid, any paperwork that might be needed, etc. There is still a glimmer of a possibility that the chemo will work and this could be treatable, but if the worst happens, they are trying to be prepared. This is all so totally unexpected so nothing has ever really been discussed.

    DH, his cousin, and his Aunt all went to be with him Sunday evening. None of them have return flights at this point because we just don't know what to expect. I, cousin's husband, and DH's other Uncle are all holding down the fort with the three kids. The Uncle that is sick lives in TX. He is divorced and lives with his longtime best friend. They are heading to the hospital this morning and are hoping for some new info. He was just diagnosed on Saturday afternoon as possibly having leukemia. They confirmed last night that it is AML 4.
