to take the baby out and about? My little guy was born at 35 wks, 4days so I anticipated waiting longer than normal. He will be 3 wks on Wed. and has been to my parents and inlaws houses and to the doctor. I'm starting to go a little stir crazy and would really like a short trip to Target or something. However, I know that if he did catch something I would totally blame myself. I really wanted to wait until the 3 wk mark but am thinking and outing today might be alright? Thoughts?...
Re: How long did you wait...
DS was 35w and 6d and 1 week in the NICU. When he came home we didn't do much for about 2-3 weeks. After that I took him to visit family that was visiting from out of town. I wouldn't have, but they were elderly family and I couldn't help but think this might their only chance to visit him.
When we did go out after that I usually carried him in the Baby Bjorn. That way he was closer to me and strangers couldn't get in his face without getting into mine.
My babies were born at 37 weeks and we went out when they were about 2 2 weeks old. What about taking a walk outside with your little guy? At least that will get you out of the house.
Kerri
we went out quickly too. Within a couple weeks.
We just closed off the stroller and infant seat with a blanket - and off we went.
We moved into our new house one week after DDs birth -- so we were already pretty brave!
Just be careful... there is a reason they tell you to wait. A fever of 100.4 if enough to cause alarm in an infant. My DD2 was just at the ER this week for a 103.1 fever. She is 6 weeks, but they said if she was under 4 weeks we would have been admitted, they would have done the x-ray, catheter (for urine sample) and taken blood like they did, but she would have also had a spinal tap and other invasive testing. As it was, it took four nurses six attempts to get blood out of her little veins.
Unfortunately for us, it's not from taking her out, but the fact that we have a toddler who got her sick and will probably continue to do so.
