I'm in a predicament. I am 10 weeks and want to change my obgyn. I had my first prenatal appt at South Shore Women's Health in Weymouth, which delivers at South Shore Hospital, because that's where my gyn was before pregnancy. Let's just say I was not impressed, so now that I'm looking, I'm considering several situations. I'm a teacher and I live in Randolph, but teach in Wellesley. The commute can be anywhere from 45 mins to 90 mins, dependent on 128 traffic. As a result, I'm not sure whether to go with an ob near home, near work, or in between. Most places I've looked into take their last ob appt around 3 or 3:45 at the latest, which would mean I'd have to leave school before the kids. I am not opposed to leaving early here and there, but I hope to not have to do it every time, which is why I'm considering places near work. The related issue is then where to deliver. Obviously, Boston has the best doctors, but most places near home deliver at South Shore Hospital and most places near work deliver near Newton Wellesley. I'm not opposed to either hospital, just also trying to explore the option of delivering in Boston, though I would not want to go there for my ob appts (too out of the way). What is your advice? Do you have any places you recommend? Thanks in advance for all your help!
Re: What hospital and obgyn should I use? Advice much appreciated!
The hospital is about an hour away from where I teach. When I expressed some concern about this to my doctor, she said that in MOST cases you can tell when your body is starting to go in to labor and would have plenty of time to get to the hospital.
In terms of the appointments, the very latest appointment is around 4, which means I need to have a coworker cover my class for the last 20 minutes of the day. When we were still in school, I was pretty lucky and able to schedule the appointments for Early Release Days or days when I had a special last period. When that didn't work, my principal was very understanding and able to get me coverage. It's one of the positives of working in a female dominated profession!

Our pediatrician doesn't do rounds at NWH but I found the pediatricians that did do rounds there were all great. They even caught that my DD had hip dysplasia so we could take corrective action immediately.
I'm a teacher too and I completely understand the stress of having to leave early to get to the doctor for the last appointment of the day. I would find a doctor closer to where you work.
