Lurker here!

Hi Ladies! I'm curious what others have done or not done for birth control after your LO. Im not totally sure I'm ready for the prospect of another LO super soon, but I don't want to go back to any contraceptive method after our 5 year wait either. I now think we aren't so much unexplained infertility; Dr saw endo during my section and we are thinking PCOS after the cysts seen at the 6wk US. I feel sad and selfish saying I can't fathom another LO too soon when we've all waited so long. What are your thoughts?

We are mfi so pregnancy isn't going to fix anything. I didn't go back on any for. Of birth control after ds. I also never got a pp period until after we went back to the RE when DS was just over a year.

After delivering the twins I don't think I'll be on bc. Dh has talked about getting "fixed" but I'm not sure I want that yet.

I did ask my OB and she said as long as we want more kids then just chance it.

I started the mini pill after my first. I have PCOS and thanks to my jacked up hormones, I bled for 9 weeks. That's when I threw in the towel and started BCPs.

I quit taking the pill at 8m PP when AF returned. I got pregnant with my miracle baby 3 short months later.

I'm currently not on anything, and don't want to since my hormones are cooperating for once. Mh has talked about getting snipped. Right now we are pull n pray and EBF. I'd be ok with an oops though I know mh is done with 2.

It was condoms for us, but that was nothing new as all forms of birth control make me VERY sick (migraines) After this baby, I think we are done, so I will be exploring more options like a tubal during my RCS or an IUD.

I just got the mirena IUD. I struggled several years to get pregnant with DS and finally did on clomid. We tried almost immediately after having DS on our own for a second without intervention, then tried clomid/femara which didn't work and I ended up having a surprise DD 3 years later. She is 2 months old now. With all that being said it seems ridiculous to have to use some form of birth control but I think we are done. I know my DH wants another but pregnancy was very hard on me both times around. So at this point we're not ready to do anything permanent but I couldn't handle a surprise 3rd if it came to that.

The mirena has hormones and is good for 5 years. There is a new IUD skyla that's even lower dose hormones that's good for 3 years. Maybe those arent an option for you though? There's always paraguard but I think you have heavy period with that one.
Otherwise seems like condoms might be your only other choice.

We didn't use birth control after either child because we want more kids. We did pull and pray or use condoms for the first 6 months after each baby because I had csections and wanted some time to heal before getting pregnant. I got pregnant with #2 my first post partum cycle (my cycle returned when #1 was 8 months). Once we are done, I will probably have my tubes tied since I have sections anyway.

If you had a c-section, you'll need to wait anyway due to the risk of uterine rupture. My OB did not want any less than 12 months between pregnancies, but some docs prefer more/less. My OB was actually a patient of my RE and also unexplained with a history of a spontaneous second pregnancy, so she was BIG on birth control. When she asked me, I flat out told her I had newborn twins and that my plan was abstinence. But, after I stopped nursing and had a semblance of a sex drive, we used condoms. Now, we use a little bit of the good old "pull and pray" and some condoms. But, a pregnancy would not be a completely unwelcome event for us and my cycles since weaning are crap, so I am not too concerned about BC.

I am pregnant w my second and have already decided to take bcp after i deliver. I will not be ready for another so soon after having two (i am due in March and DD will just be 2 by then). The thought feels odd and completely against what i used to want, but having the three so close isn't what we want either. Gl with your decision!

This is pretty much us too. The only difference is I was a CS so we were more "careful" in the beginning, ie. timing, etc. But that pretty much just meant very little sex.

Thanks for the thougts ladies. I have no idea what we will do. I keep going back and forth on every option. I guess I still need to hear what doc's opinion is as well. Poor DH is just as confused!

IF you really don't want a oops I would get on birth control. I only say that since we have had so many lucky ladies on here who got knocked up this past year med free. I personally don't want a lo until my youngest is 3 but with that being said I still wont get on birth control. After my first I had all my test redone and we saw that nothing in my body had changed since childbirth so there was no need to get on it. Zero chance of getting pregnant so this time around I won't get on it either because I doubt anything has changed. But if by the grace of god I did I would see it as a miracle.

I had the same question right before my appointment and could not decide for the life of me. My doctor finally convinced me.

After DD I went on BCP and I think it was a contributing factor to my milk supply decrease. I didn't want to risk it this time around, so H and I went back to condoms. DH wants to stop at 2 LOs...I'm secretly praying for a surprise #3. So because of that, I won't let him get snipped yet.

I am only 3 weeks apP, but with a DOR dx I don't want to do hormone bc. We will likely use condoms or pull and pray for the first six months after I am cleared. Then we will just go to nothing. I don't plan on using OPKs and actively trying until after LO is a year, but if we got a surprise we wouldn't care. While we would love a second child, neither of us wants to go back to the REs, so we are hoping that this pregnancy flipped some sort of switch in me and reset my system
