Have you left your LO yet?

Have any of you left your little one yet and, if so, at how many weeks and for how long?
I'm being featured in a new pregnancy/motherhood blog during the month of October, so if you ever wanted to know more about my pregnancy, birth, and motherhood experiences than anyone ever should, check out my posts in the link below! :)

  • My sister came from Arizona to visit so I left both kids with her and my mom on Friday to get my hair done. I finally feel human again! LO is 5 weeks.

  • I've run some errands for 1-2 hours a couple times so far.  I'm planning on going to a bridal shower this Saturday though, which is 3.5 hrs away so I'll probably be gone a total of 10 hrs or so.. kind of nervous about it.  I just need to make sure he'll take bottles before I leave.  I'm currently building a stash of breastmilk and should have plenty by Saturday.  Then I'll have a wedding to go to near the end of October.  I'm not sure yet if MIL will be able to watch him for the wedding in late October which is the same distance away, or if DH will have to stay home to take care of him.

I left LO for about 30-40 min or so for the first time yesterday.  I rode with a friend to pick up some takeout while LO was home with DH and another friend.  I'm not sure if that counts because I've napped in another room longer than that, but...baby steps, right?

    ETA: He's 5 weeks and 3 days.

  • About an hour at a time here and there with DH. My mom was in town this past week, and DH and I went out to get milkshakes - I started crying in the driveway. I trust my husband when I'm away, but even leaving her with anyone else including my own mom gives me complete anxiety. Will have to work on that because she will be going to daycare in 5 weeks..

  • I left her a little at a time just to run and get stuff. The first time was at a week just to go pick up some supper for DH's b-day. The longest was when she was 3 weeks. DH and I went out for ice cream so we left her with IL's who were visiting. We were only gone 30 min or so.

I just started pumping for a stash today (I'm a SAHM) but haven't tried a bottle with her yet. She's 6 weeks.

  • I left him at 3 days old, though not by choice. I was taken back to the hospital for some things. Other than that, I have left him some with my mom too. We had to run home for some things when H and I were staying with her after lightening hit a tree beside our house, we thought it was the house.

  • I left her at 8 days old to get a massage that was going to expire (the one I was supposed to get at 38 weeks, the day I went into labor.) Had to use it and take advantage of daddy being home on paternity leave!

Also have done about 3 different hour long shopping trips.

Yesterday was my longest away time (about 3 hours) to have all you can eat sushi with a friend.

She's always been with DH so I've never felt worried to leave her, even if he does. ;-)

  • Just a few errands, while DH has watched him, generally less than an hour but the longest was 90 minutes.

We'll leave him for real the first time this Sunday - DH's 40th birthday party at a baseball game! He'll be in good hands with his grandma. Two weddings coming up end of September - I may do both, but may only do one, depending how the first goes.

  • Yes. At less than a week for a doctors appoint gone 2 hours, left with DH. I leave them every Sunday with DH to go grocery shopping. I hope to have a date soon.

  • My situation is different because I had brain surgery two days after LO was born. He wasn't allowed to be with me on the neuro units.

He spent five nights in the nursery and four nights with my mom - the first 10 days he was alive.

I've also had tons of doctor appointments he hasn't come with me to. Other than that, I have been to the grocery store and got a pedicure while H watched him.

    He's six weeks today.

  • Heck ya. I've taken the older LO grocery shopping and left DS with dh days after we came home. We had our first date night on our wedding anniversary and both stayed with my mom when DS was 2 weeks. I will be leaving both this weekend with dh to go to a football game with one of my girl friends.

  • I've left him 3 times to go to the chiropractor to work on the horrible sciatica pain I've been experiencing since before delivery :(( hubby watched him, and I fed him right before I left each time. LO is almost 3 weeks, left him for first time at 1 week, then following appointments were at 2 weeks.

The first time I left felt kind of amazing. I need to start pumping soon to build a supply (how long does that take? What's a good supply??) since it seems I'll be having to go to more appts, and for longer. Booo!!!!

  • I left her yesterday to take DS to the park. Because everytime DH was supposed to do it, he would find other things or places to take him (like, shopping- which IMO, is NOT activity). So I left her with him for an hour. Not much, but something. And it was nice to move around and get some one-on-one with DS. She's a month now, and he's only 19 months.

  • Not by choice - at birth till 9 days old (nicu baby)

By choice- starting last week (4 weeks) for an hr in the morn for iron infusions(i guess that's another not by choice thing...)

  • Left DD with my parents when she was about a month old, DH and I had a quick lunch to celebrate our anniversary. I also left DD with DH for a few under two hour stints while I ran errands. It was nice to go out alone for a little bit.

  • Just here and there with daddy.  Not for longer than an hour or so.  I just recently pumped some milk, it's in the freezer.

We plan to leave all 3 boys with my parents for several hours later this month.  We'll have to do a practice bottle with the baby before then, since he's never had a bottle.  Want to make sure he'll take one before I leave him with my mom for so long!

  • I can't leave for more than am hour or two until I start pumping this week, but I have left her with both DH and my mom. The first time was the afternoon we got home from the hospital so I could gety prescriptions filled. That time I left her with DH. I have left her with my mom when I take Otis our dog to the vet. He was diagnosed with diabetes 5 days after she was born, so he needs to go for regular glucose checks until we get his insulin dosage right.

  • I've left once for three hours to have a date night with my husband. He was 5 weeks and I left plenty of pumped milk for him. It was nice but I was ready to go home once the movie ended!
  • I left her with BF for 2 hours while I grocery shopped because we had no food when I went into labor. She was 6 days old. I've left her with him for a few errands since. We left her with my mom for 3 hours while we went to baconfest downtown with friends, she was 2.5weeks.

We exclusive formula feed so that aspect of leaving her is much easier. I have no intentions of leaving her for longer quite yet. Although my mom lives two doors down and has offered to keep her a whole night over the weekend some time. She would be super close and I could sleep....I'd probably be OK with that at 5-6 weeks....maybe lol
  • My mom took him for two nights when he was almost five weeks. I actually got some sleep those nights.

How was that for you? My mom will be taking DD this weekend while I'm out of town for a wedding. I handled the 5 hours I was away from her this past weekend pretty well, but I'm thinking overnights might be a bit harder. She'll be a month old on Sunday.

  • Heck yes! I've left him with DH for 5 hours while I went to host a baby shower for my girlfriend, with my mom a couple times, dad and his wife once and my sister twice while I go run errands/appointments. We are EFF though so it's easy for me leave and not worry about feeding. Momma needs a break every now and then!

  • Oh hell yes. I try to take her with me to run some errands during the day but usually can't fit them all in so I leave her with DH when he gets home. And when she was almost 2 weeks we left her overnight with MIL so that we could sleep. It was heaven and I don't regret doing it. Sleep deprivation is no effing joke.

  • I left her last week with my mom, to run to Target and pick up my son from DC. I was gone about 90min, she had just eaten before I left. Honestly at this age I hate leaving her long enough that she may eat! Anything I pump I want to save for back to work!

He was in special care for 2 weeks, so I got used to trusting other people with his safety and care. My DH has watched him while i went to the state fair at 5 weeks and my mom watched him at 6 weeks while DH & I had a date night. He was screaming the whole way there like he knew we were leaving him, spitting up and everything I was so scared he was sick. We got to my mom's and he saw grammy, stopped crying cuddled up to her and slept. Little rascal.

Should note he's FF and my mom has literally seen him almost everyday since birth. She will be his daycare when I go back to work.
  • Went to Target and Starbucks while LO was with hubs. Felt wrong. Freezing a stash- so far 20oz!!!!- for date nights with H. Had no idea how hard it'd be to spend time together with a baby on the boob so often. My mom will be taking LO overnight when we decide on our first big date. I hope it's soon- but LO is just 9 days old & has no routine. I miss quality time with my husband!!
  • I think starting at 3 weeks MIL and FIL watched DS for a couple of hours once in a while so I could run errands and got a pedicure once. I felt a little guilty at first, but I come back feeling better and can take better care of him.
  • A few times he's stayed home with DH when I've gone to pick up DD from day care. So around 30 minutes.
  • I left DS alone with H the first week home only to do a quick grocery store run down the street. I have slowly built up to Doing other small errands while H spends time with him. We also managed to do two dinner date nights while MIL and my mother watched him. However we are very lucky in the fact that we live in same town as our parents and most of out immediate families. Also H works nights so during day if I have any errands I need to go he'll stay with DS to make it a little easier. He's now 5 weeks old now.
