tummy time... how do you get through it?

My DD hates tummy time. She always ends up sleeping on her right side, and we are trying to work on the flat spot she is getting. She cries almost immediately, and gets hysterical.

What I've tried:
lay LO on mat on her side first (trying to ease her into it)
place a toy she loves in front of her (her crib soother, a chime toy that lights up)
place laptop in front of her and play kid friendly youtube videos (TV addict)
lay in front of her and sing silly songs.

What works for you? Any ideas? I was thinking of getting one of the mats that has the mini boppy style pillows as well. I'm also planning to babywear her for a walk when I get home from work, which will keep her off her back.

Re: tummy time... how do you get through it?

  • DS used to just lay there until we did tummy time on the boppy. It helped a lot.
  • Loading the player...
  • Boppy +1. DD loves it since she can see way more. Also try doing it on your tummy so she can see your face.
  • Patience. DS hated tummy time for awhile. Then I got that crawling snail thing and he loved staring at himself in the mirror and watching the snail's head light up. We worked from a few minutes to almost 10 to enjoying it sometimes. He still gets fussy if he's there too long, but it's so much better and he actually rolled over Friday. Lying down in front of him and making funny faces and singing him silly songs helps too. Doing what @njbabymama does also helps- waiting til he's having a good time on his back and rolling him onto his tummy and continuing to do what we were doing on his back helps the transition. Oh, not doing it right after eating helps too.

  • Thanks everyone! Love this board :)

I have a boppy pillow, I'll try that out; also love the idea of the mirrors, and phone.

Will start trying ideas tomorrow. Wish us luck!
