Stay at Home Moms

Any sahms with a WFH dad?

So dh started a new job a few months ago and last week his employer gave him the option of WFH a few days a week. He figured he would go in m/t/th and stay home w/f. We have a pretty good layout for it as the office is on the second floor where the kids don't play. He's going to work from 6-2/3 and I take the kids out after school so there will only be a few hours we will all be in the house. I'm sure there will be some adjustment for the kids to see dad but not be able to play. Any advice for those who have btdt?

  • Keep them out of the house!  Lol, j/k, sort of :)  DH only WFH maybe once or twice a month, so EVERY time DS is just excited that he's home, and we need to leave so that he can get anything done.  But hopefully since it's so frequently that the novelty wears off quickly.  I mean, I think it sounds like he'll be out of the way anyway, and I think your LOs are old enough to 'get' that they can't bother your H while he's working....?  Exciting to have him home for a few days though!

  • I thought this was gonna be asking if he should wear a suit....

The irony here is dh is an accountant for an engineering firm. All the engineers are in jeans or khakis while he's in a shirt and tie. I frequently ridicule him for it. Lol.

  • DH works from home a couple days a week. Occasionally kids see him for lunch or if he comes down for water, but they know daddy is working and we don't ever go into the "office". In your case, if he's upstairs where they're not playing they prob won't see him much. Just be clear that daddy is going to work in his office and we don't disturb him.

That's our set up.  We all love it, but you really need designated space.  The kids "get" he is at work.

I will say though though the nature of DH's work makes things pretty flexible for him -- he has breakfast and sometimes lunch with the kids, does the preschool drop off one day a week, that sort of thing.

He has the flexibility to do that sort of thing but I think it will be tricky for dd to have him come and go. I'd rather him sneak up before they wake up and be sort of out of sight out of mind. Of course I'm keeping an open mind and we can modify as we go along. Dd is by nature a rule follower but I can see her being sad about dh going to a different part of the house where she can't join. With her weak auditory processing/immaturity I'm at a Loss of how to explain to her.
