How many weeks are you? 21 weeks, this pregnancy is FLYING by

What fruit/veggie is your little one this week? Pomegranate

How are you feeling/any new symptoms coming out? Getting more tired at night and so much earlier too. Think 8:15 and I'm ready for bed. Where is my 2nd tri energy boost? It could be a mix of being back teaching full time, the beginning of the year is exhausting no matter being pregnant or not. Or maybe the fact that we had DS2's 2nd bday party last weekend and then DH traveled this eek for work, so I was single-parenting for a few days. Always tiring.

Any exciting/interesting non-baby related news? Nope. We have NO Plans at all this weekend and I'm giddy just thinking about the free time and family time we can soak up. We also have our A/S on Tuesday, which I am looking forward to. (Ok so that's baby-related, I broke the rules.)

Pretty good. Lots of stretching the last couple of days all through my belly. Trying to worry too much about seeing the high risk specialists next week for our Turners syndrome diagnosis.

We are going to see our nephew today and we haven't seen him since April because his parents have been going through a nasty divorce.

  • How many weeks are you? 20 on the dot!

What fruit/veggie is your little one this week? Banana

How are you feeling/any new symptoms coming out? Overall, feeling pretty good. The past few days I've been going through a few bouts of exhaustion, similar to first tri. I'm guessing it's due to baby going through a growth spurt because the RLP has also been pretty prominent lately. Hopefully I bounce back soon and get some energy going again!

Any exciting/interesting non-baby related news? I'm in the middle of refinishing an armoire for our master bedroom using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. So far, so good. I'm not the neatest painter but I think the end product is going to turn out well! Love that I can change the look of furniture without having to strip and sand, plus the paint is very low VOC :-) . I know, horribly exciting...

Doing well for the most part. Insomnia can buzz off any time now, though.

     Any exciting/interesting non-baby related news?
Not really. Still searching for a house (like we have been for a year) and hoping we find one before we have to make big transitions in our house for this LO.

    BFP #1: 4/2/12 -- DD born 12/15/12. BFP #2: 4/1/14 -- CP. BFP #3: 4/28/14 -- EDD 1/10/15

  • @mandikins27‌ that's is such awesome news for your daughter. I'm a pediatric nurse so it's nice when we get to see progress & things actual work out for our kiddos.

@kayham12‌ Fingers crossed and T&Ps for your appointment this week.

@jennyhatt‌ So excited you're going to Italy. I've always wanted to go but can never talk DH into those destinations. *pout face*. & @emmyg65‌ this ticker group is gonna need a vacation thread in October to share some fun pics. So many trips coming up!!

@muskiefan07‌ I'm with you on the insomnia. This past week I was exhausted & all I did was sleep. Then this weekend gets here (when I actually need to sleep for work) and I'm only catching a few hours here & a few hours there. I hate it!!

How are you feeling/any new symptoms coming out? Not much new, better I think, in general. But more soreness just everywhere in the mid-section from getting bigger!

Any exciting/interesting non-baby related news? Umm, oh! DD1 is almost potty-trained! She had no accidents for the last two days, even with multiple trips out of the house! I'm hoping for a month or two diaper-free before little sis comes along!

My hips are killing me starting at about 7pm every night, earlier if I've biked a lot or spent too much time sitting at the office.
Sleeping/lying down with a couple of pillows between my legs seems to help a bit.
My nausea is under control (meds), and I'm finally feeling more energetic - until I'm totally exhausted.

    Any exciting/interesting non-baby related news?
The weather is finally starting to change! It's been so hot, and I've been so barfy all summer. I can't wait for the fall. Long walks without overheating (why so much sweat now body?), squash gnocchi, bike rides over crunchy leaves, pruning the garden and planting the garlic. I am so excited for the season to change!
  • Squash gnocchi . Ummm yes please!! I always make roasted butternut squash ravioli, or pumpkin gnocchi, but now I will have to make squash gnocchi! @aremac do you have a recipe?
  • @jennyhatt I don't use a real recipe,  I just bake (or microwave ) the squash until fork tender, I find that boiling makes for too much moisture.

Scoop it out of the skin and mash it (to make it really smooth use a mixer), then I push up on the sides of the bowl to let any excess moisture evaporate.

Once its cooled down I measure out how much I've got. For every 1.5 cups of squash I add one egg yolk. I mix that up well and season with some salt. Then I add enough all purpose flour to make it into a sticky dough that will form a loose ball.

Generously flour your counter and then take a handful at a time and roll out, cut into 1" pieces. Sprinkle flour over the pieces so the ends don't get a stuck together and then them over a fork. Once you've got them all prepped sprinkle with a bit more flour and lay them out in a single layer on a floured cookie sheet (or just your cutting board/counter). Leave them to harden slightly, 30 min to an hour will do it. Enough time to make a salad, decant the wine (omg I wish), and get the table ready.

Boil them in salted water one minute past the point at which they float, and serve them with whatever you'd like for a sauce. Tomato and sausage is brilliant. Mostly I brown some butter in a cast iron skillet, and whole leaves of fresh sage and then drop the drained gnocchi in to cover.

I'm terrible for not writing down recipes, but I often refer to Jamie Oliver for techniques/ratios when I forget things - https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/member-recipes/GNOCCHI DI PATATE/6981

If I'm making something that I  need the oven for, I'll often roast off a squash and use it the next day for gnocchi - it cuts the time in half.

  • Amazing! Thanks @aremac‌ I will definitely try this. It seems similar to the pumpkin gnocchi I make, except since I use canned pumpkin, it's sometimes a little wet and unmanageable. I suspect this will be easier to handle.

I agree with the brown butter and safe- perfect combo with b.nut squash.

have you ever froze it before? This makes great baby food for little ones learning to feed themselves because it's so soft. My daughter would go crazy for it when she was little.
  • @JennyHatt It never lasts long enough around my husband to make it to the freezer. I think it would do ok though.
I'm making it for dinner tonight - maybe I'll try to freeze some and test it out!
