Walking side pain

Yesterday I started a new commute which involves a reasonably brisk 1 mile walk. So far each time (today is day 2, so 4 walks), I start off fine and then get a sharp pain in my right side, kind of like a bad running cramp. I don't feel like I'm pushing myself all that hard, heart rate isn't all that high and I'm definitely not out of breath. Anyone else have this? As soon as I get to my destination it goes away and I feel just fine again. Regardless, not a fan :-/

  • Feels similar, but a bit stronger. Usually my heart rate is a bit higher when it's happened before.

Is it a stitch? Like you get from running? That's what it sounds like.

I got that by the walk back to the car on both state fair trips!
  • I get that with walking more than .5 of a mile or when I am at the gym. Mild muscle cramp compared to the sharp feeling of the running stich...but rather strong.

  • I get this sometimes when I'm swimming. It is a sign to take a rest for 40 seconds or so. I've been assuming it is a pregnancy version of a cramp or stitch. I sympathize and you're not alone!!
  • I get this most everyday! I blame the round ligament and it has happened since I was probably less than 8 weeks along. The only thing that I think helps and it might just be in my head but I go pee before I do any walking. When it happens I just put pressure on it and walk slower.

I get that too when I walk. A maternity belt will help with that. That's what I did, and there's a much more noticeable difference!

  • Thanks!!  It has gotten better as the days have gone by.  Making sure i have water beforehand also seems to help as well :-).  I'll defintely look into one of those belts if it comes back!
