MOTN

For those of you not doing a MOTN feeding...when LO wakes up and needs a diaper change...how are you putting them back to sleep?
Are you doing 1 oz?
Rocking them?

LO was doing so good STTN and now all of a sudden waking up at 1:30 for diaper change...we change his diaper and for the next 3 hours he us keeping me up with noises and hands in mouth and grunting.

I'm doing one large feeding before bed to make him last through the night but what do you do on nights when he needs to be changed to get him back to sleep

Re: MOTN

  • Are you sure he isn't hungry? How old is he? It's very unusual for babies as young as ours to consistently STTN.

  • That seems like he's hungry. Call your pediatrician and see what he says.

Sorry I should have been more clear.(wrote this halfway awake)..I do make a bottle but he eats half an ounce and seems not interested in the rest

After that hands are in mouth but he won't take bottle and just lays there and grunts.

He was diagnosed with reflux...not sure if that has anything to do with it
  • Milo sometimes gets like that, and he won't stay on the boob I know he's overtired. So I swaddle him, put him on his side, jiggle and keep stuffing the paci in his mouth until he's out. That's only after he refuses the boob several times.

  • Is LO on meds for reflux? How does he do with eating during the day? Is he laying flat to sleep? DD had to sleep propped up. Otherwise, she was in pain and would refuse to eat. But that may not be the issue if he's not fussing or crying.

If LO wakes up, feeds for a bit and then won't latch well, I bounce and burp him until he clears the gas. Sometimes it takes ages.

  • At 9 weeks, my LO sleeps 8-9.5 hours straight every night. She's done that for about a week now. If she starts waking in the motn, I feed her. It's rare babies just wake and cry for a diaper. Hope the reflux improves for you!

  • Thank you ladies...we were given medicine for the reflux ..nizaridine..seems like everyone else was given zantac..we go to the doctor tomorrow to see if we can get that changed. We also prop him up at night in his side sleeper and hold him up for 15-30 mins after feeding.

Sorry about early post...of course I feed him...so sleepy from no sleep lol
  • Our pedi prescribed nizaridine for the reflux also and it's worked wonders! How long has your LO been on it?

  • Nizaridine and Zantac are both h2 blockers. If you find that it's not working, you may want to ask about a proton pump inhibitor like Prevacid.  Axid (nizaridine) and Zantac were useless for DD, but Prevacid worked.
