This may be a little early, But we are shopping early this year for J's birthday and Christmas. I thought it would be cool to start a top wanted items list of what you will be buying for LO.

1. Thomas the train table and train cars
2. This play tent.

Winter will be long I have a feeling, so I want to get some things that will keep DS occupied in the house or in the heated garage.

Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

Train table is a great idea.  We have one and both kids play at it for long periods of time.  We already have a lot of boy stuff from DS.

So for DD, I was thinking Elmo, Sophia or Frozen stuff since that is her current obsession.  Also probably switch the crib to the toddler bed and start looking for a twin bed around her birthday which also means getting cool girly sheets etc.  Maybe some underwear to start PTing (not for Christmas, but just around that time).  I have coats, and some hand me downs, but I'll probably want to buy a few more cold weather clothes.

We made our unfinished basement into a playroom, and we have a tent, train table, play tunnel, basketball hoop.  I put the bikes in there too.  Its a fairly big space, and they can't really damage anything so its our "outdoor" large motor skills place where we can do stuff like "play tennis/ baseball" etc and not hurt anything.  We decided not to finish the walls because there is a cistern there we had to take out, but also so they wouldn't get damaged by the kids.  We don't actually want to make it too nice or too adult.  Once the kids get to be teenagers then maybe we'll convert it to a rec room.
This sounds exactly like our basement, concrete walls and floor that are painted. It's really clean down there and there is plenty of space for J to run around. We've been worried about the old stairs that go down there though, we don't want him to do those on his own and we need to figure out a way to block off the furnace, water heater. Our garage is heated, which is nice. I plan to pull the cars out on the no snow days and turn on the heater and let him ride his toys, go down his slide, etc.

  • A train table is at the top of our list. That will be DS's one big gift. I usually keep Christmas to 5 gifts, so the other 4 will be smaller. One gift us always a new outfit to where on Christmas.

I'm at a loss for his birthday. I would like that to be something fun, but also practical (in a developmental kind of way).

  • We would love to do a train table, but we really have nowhere to put it.

We saw a fisher price Disney Princess castle at Costco yesterday and I would love to get that for DD for Christmas this year. I'm pretty sure we will go back and get it for her.

For her birthday we may do a bubble guppies play set or something. I know mil will be getting her a doll house for her birthday, so maybe some furniture and dolls for that instead.

  • We are definitely in the market for a play kitchen and food. I already picked up a step two shopping cart with some plastic food that was brand new in the box at a mom to mom sale. Debating on something like an Innotab---DS plays with my IPAD with me sometimes and loves it. Also want to get him one of those fisher price doctor kit play kits too.

We won't be doing a big party again this year. Will probably just have our parents and brothers/sisters over for a small get together at our house.

  • I'm thinking an art table or easel, and then a power wheels for his birthday to use next summer. Maybe some little people stuff and some other small gifts.

@jobiann‌ - We have a similar tent but ours is from ikea. DS loves it!! I'm sure your DS will love it too. As for what our DS will be getting, we got the play kitchen and some of those big cardboard Melissa and Doug blocks. I want to get some more play food and maybe some art supplies but that's it.

We have to order Christmas gifts really early. The port here is all messed up so mail is taking a really long time to be delivered!

I'm thinking of drums for DD, a few books [I just sent Rosie Revere, Engineer and Iggy Peck Architect to my brand new born yesterday niece so if her parents think they're cute I'll order them for DD] and some clothes.

A train table is a great idea though DD loved using the one at her friends' house before they moved.

We have a Hape kitchen, it's on the small side but DD and her friends love it and I really like the look of wood kitchens. I kind of want to order her the little Hape coffee machine because we love coffee and I'd love to have "coffee parties" with her.

We also have the Hape workbench and it's really awesome! I think it's super cool, it's also a little small and DD is a little young to work a lot of it now but all the babies are at least interested in it so I think it'll become a lot more fun in a couple months.

Birthday Party: I think we're going to do it about 2 weeks before her birthday, so mid December. It'll be a breakfast bash, we're thinking of doing a bagel & breakfast burrito bar. Plus pancakes of course.

We got a train table for free from my husband's cousin and Jack LOVES it. It keeps him busy for long periods of time. It is huge though. I had to move around and take away stuff in his play area to fit it. (No basement or garage). My initial thought was if he didn't play with it I would get rid of it, but it looks like it's here to stay. I would like to eventually spray paint it to match my living room decor though!!
As for Christmas, I think our big purchase will be a Melissa and Doug art easel and maybe for his birthday a wooden balancing bike and helmet. With our weather (and small house) though, he won't be able to really play with it until spring. I may not even take it out of the box.
A balance bike! That's the other big thing we were considering. Our neighbor got one for her 2 year old last year and it took a couple months but he scoots all over the place, he loves it now!
