Who is sleeping sitting up?

My shoulders and hips ache terrible when I sleep on them. I am seriously contemplating using 10 pillows tonight so I can sleep sitting up. Anyone tried this, and does it help at all?

Re: Who is sleeping sitting up?

  • I have a bed that can be inclined and it does help to give the hips a break. Good luck- hope you get some sleep.

  • I generally sleep with two pillows behind me so i am definitely propped up anyway. I sleep on my side with another pillow between my thighs/knees. I am a stomach sleeper so sleep pretty much sucks. My back would probably hurt if i slept sitting up.
  • I've been sleeping sitting up some nights, but more because of heartburn than hip pain. When I do it, I use one the normal way, then stack 2-3 others perpendicular to make a little tower to lean on that still supports my back. I also put one under my knees.

    Good luck!!

  • I sleep sitting up when my heartburn acts up. It definitely helps. Can't say what it does for sore joints but my guess is it would help since you're taking the pressure off your sides.

  • I put a heating pad on my back right before bed to help with back/shoulder pain and a big body pillow between my thighs to help with hip soreness.
  • I slept in a recliner last night because of back pain but it did seem to help my joints as well. I don't want to have to be banished from my bed but you do what works.

I've also been sleeping in our recliner when the back and hip pain is too much.

  • I don't think I could sleep sitting up but I have been snuggling into the pillows.  I have been taking 1 Tylenol before going to bed so that it takes away some of the achy tenderness.

  • Me!!! I'm using 6 pillows including the leachco pregnancy pillow and a bed rest pillow. I basically build a pillow fort. No more numb hips, sore shoulders, or waking up every 2 hours. Except to use restroom of course :) good luck. It's actually comfortable.
  • I'm sleeping on my side for about half the night and propped up by a million pillows the other half when the hip pain gets too bad. DH refers to my set up as "The Fortress of Pillitude." It's a good thing we have a king sized bed, because me and my pillows are taking up a lot of space!
