Question: What is the formula equivalent of one ounce of BM?

Full story: When DS was EBF he took a total of 28oz a day (seven 4oz bottles). I'm having supply issues and have recently started supplementing. Usually end up giving two bottles of formula a day and five bottles of BM. Both formula and BM bottles still 4oz. I know 28oz of BM a day is within recommended range, but recently read formula guidelines are 2.5oz per pound. DS is 15lbs. That would mean 37.5oz of formula if he was EFF. So does that mean that his formula bottles should be larger? Is one ounce of formula not equal to one ounce of BM?

Well as babies get older and grow the composition of BM changes, when formula doesn't--- so it's volume ia increased.

I would talk to a LC or your ped

I honestly never worry about the guidelines. I feed DD what she wants and she is growing just fine!

I ff and pump feed breast milk I just feed her when she is hungry with what I have available and she is just right in size and weight when I took her for her last pediatrician visit

Ounce to ounce it is the same, but formual is digested slower than bm
