My own personal Bitchfest Monday! (Long & Miserable :|)

There I am, about 4pm yesterday, living my life and the next thing I know my pee hole is about to burn off, it hurts to walk and I'm getting cramps that are growing stronger and stronger and are located from the middle of my stomach, around my left side, and into the middle of my back. When it really starts not feeling right I tell my mom "I need you to drive me to the hospital immediately". The hospital I'll be delivering at is almost an hour away but since I, personally, didn't feel like he was gonna push out my vag anytime soon, I go to the nearest ER. That 20 minute drive from my house turned into a 10 minute drive (go mom!) & was THEE most excruciating thing I've ever felt I believe. I could barely walk into the hospital, I was in tears, doubled over and sweat was pouring off of me. I looked like I had just done the ice bucket challenge.

SO...here I am. I go into the registration room and no one is in there and I can't even talk so I lay across the desk just to be able to lay on something (yea, I bet that was attractive too) & a big male nurse named Mark that looked like a sloth came in and said "hm. what's going on here?". I was literally screaming and groaning in pain and the first words I said were "I know this isn't a labor and delivery hospital, but something is wrong" & he said "Yea...it's not...follow me I guess..." STRIKE ONE, DOUCHE. He takes me to triage and they proceed to ask me every question you can think of in the slowest manor possible. I'm not one to act out when I'm in pain typically so that fact that I was standing there screaming and nearly passing out while they offered no comfort or a seat even was pissing me right off. Mr Sloth nurse comes in and tells another nurse "Well, the Dr said she needs to go somewhere else but since she's here he guesses he'll take a look...." THEN sloth nurse looks at me and said "Any chance this is just false labor?.....because next time something like this happens, you just need to call a squad so they can just take you to the hospital you actually need to be at. Where do you live at anyway that you couldn't make it to your hospital?" I promptly told him that if he would call me a squad for transport, then I would GLADLY go elsewhere and he chuckled and walked out.

SO, they put me in a tiny side room up on an exam 'bed' and let me sit in there for about 10 minutes, screaming and crying until the nurse came in. They put an IV in the back of my hand IN CASE I needed anything (but at that point had no plans of giving anything) & tried to find the heartbeat which they could not do properly and further freaked me out. After about 5 or so minutes they seemed to find it, thankfully. 35 minutes later I FINALLY am getting some relief. This intense, severe pain lasted for almost 45 minutes straight with NO breaks. The Doctor comes in, checks me, says everything Is closed and I'll be fine but they're going to transport me to "MY Hospital" (wasn't aware I owned one) and let L&D figure it out. I asked what it could be and he said "Braxton Hicks..haha!...get used to it! It only gets worse" & walks out. 2 seconds later, queue projectile vomiting. OH...and a great deal of urine :| DH was a freaking trooper too. As soon as he saw the look on my face, he grabbed the trashcan, held it for me, and pulled off some kind of stretch Armstrong deal and leaned to the other side of the room to pull tissues off the wall for me. He ran out & told the nurse that I was now nearly covered in vomit and urine and she brought me a small bag to puke in. I WAS DONE! I then asked for a pillow and they said "We don't have pillows, but here's a warm blanket". I was still sweating profusely and had a fan directly in my face, I had no need for a warm anything. SO, with the help of DH I wiped, scrubbed, and cleaned myself up.

I got nothing for any type of pain but I did eventually have a bag of meds for nausea run through my IV...yay. I was THEN transported by squad to "My hospital" where I had to do an 8 HOUR Non Stress Test. In the middle of that I had more blood drawn and had an ultrasound of my kidneys done to see if I had kidney stones. around 1am we hear that I have no stones, no preterm labor but that I have a lot of blood in my urine and my blood work showed a lot of infection somewhere but they weren't sure where so I was released with no answers and still in SOME pain.

SO...I did what anyone would do and I went to McDonalds for some nuggets and went home to bed.

AND THAT is why I'm bitchy today. Happy Monday!

All they could really tell me was that it looked good other than that and maybe I have a uti starting. I didn't realize it would cause that much pain though without even actually having one. I don't know that I've ever even been in that much pain before! I'm a medical freak show lol.

  • Really sucks that you were in pain for so long. If something like this happens again, and I hope it doesn't, it seems like you'll just have to haul out to your L&d hospital because a local ER doesn't have the capacity to treat you and legally they have to transfer you to somewhere that does. Sorry they were so slow to get that sorted out.

What state are you in? I like to study this stuff.

  • That sounds ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! I can't believe they sent you home without knowing what's actually wrong.  I hope you get some answers soon!

  • At least you can clear up the infection.

But yeah, the beginning of a UTI should not have you in that amount of pain.   There has to be something else.

  • Oh my goodness! So sorry you had to deal with that. I definitely wouldn't be cool with them releasing you without knowing what's wrong. Maybe call your OB and get her to run some more tests? Could this have anything to do with all the Pre E symptoms you had been having?
I wish I knew lol but I have an appointment with her on Thursday so I'll keep you guys posted :)
Sure doesn't feel like nothing, BUT...hopefully it is :)

  • That sounds horrible! The pain, the treatment at the hospital, the lack of information about the infection... Ugh. I'm glad you're feeling better today, but I'm so sorry you went through all that yesterday!
  • Gosh, that sounds terrible! I can't believe that you were in that much pain and had some obvious symptoms of something, that they didn't treat you better. I hope you get some answers soon!!
  • Holy cow!! What total jerks! I hope you get some answers soon. Will you be seeing your doc soon??
  • That's absolutely awful. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I can't imagine feeling like that and having the hospital treat you that way. Regardless of whether they have L&D they should be able to provide you with some basic services.

I hope you feel better soon and it's just an infection and can be treated easily. Please take it easy. ((hugs))

  • Oh my! That sounds like a horrible ordeal that you went through!! I am so glad to hear the baby is ok and I hope you are getting some rest and get some good news! Keep us posted!
  • Oh no! That is so terrible. I'm so so sorry you had to go through that, especially with rude incompetent people. Good thing your dh and mom were there. I also hope you get some answers soon. Take it easy.

  • Wow! Talk about bedside manner! D-bags. Keep us posted so we know everything's good with you!
  • So sorry for the crap treatment you had! Something is seriously wrong with people these days!

Did anyone mention a possible kidney infection? I know they did something with your kidneys for stones.  I had major pain on one side and my back since your kidneys are towards the back that turned into a kidney infection.  I wonder if kidney infections can include blood in your urine? I would think so.

Just another thought! Hope you feel better every minute!

  • I'm so angry for you. I can't even. What irresponsible 'healthcare'.

I hope your infection clears up and that the mickie d's was everything you needed it to be. I probably would've done the same thing.

  • That is horrible! I had similar symptoms and mystery blood also several weeks ago, they never could give me any answers. I hope whatever is going on clears up soon. Sorry they were such jerks. I'm sure you wanted to punch Mr. Sloth had you not been doubling over and vomiting and whatnot. At least you won't have to deal with them in L&D? Hugs!
  • Oh my god how horrible!!! I can't believe they treated you so terribly (or didn't treat you, as the case may be). Glad you are feeling better, I hope that continues and you get some answers on Thursday!
  • I'm so sorry you are going through this! Hope it all gets figured out soon!
  • This is horrible!!!  So sorry you had to go through that.  If I were you I'd extend the eat whatever yummy food I want until I felt better.  :)

  • I would look into the hospital's website to see if you could at least give feedback about this experience.  The way you were treated was completely uncalled for.  As if you weren't already scared on top of being in incredible pain.

Definitely follow up with your OB, but also check you PCP.  This may be a gallbladder issue or kidney infection.  Or something else (heck, I'm not a doctor!)
    .
    Good luck to you!

  • I'm sorry that happened to you, that honestly might be the worst story I've ever heard about a truly incompetent hospital staff. And seriously this is coming from having heard the story of my brother-in-law going to a hospital near his home with huge red welts all over his body and being told that he must have just been bitten by bugs and to go home (at a good hospital they found out he had a rare form of arthritis). I definitely agree that you should provide feedback, people should not be able to get away with treating others like that.

  • I hope your OB can give you some answers at your next appointment. I can't believe how badly the ER treated you. That's complete BS. Hugs mama!

  • How awful. Hope you are still feeling better and you can get to the bottom of what's going on.

  • OMG! I'm late catching up, but I can't believe you had to go through this! I'm glad you're feeling better, and I hope you get some answers on Thursday. Make sure you stay proactive and go back in to YOUR hospital if you are in anymore pain.
