Pregnant after IF

Weight gain / movement?

I'm 18 weeks, FTM and haven't gained weight and don't have a noticeable pg belly (I am overweight, 225 @ 5'9"). I also haven't noticed or felt any movement from the baby yet. I never really thought these were concerns until this weekend when family members and ILs brought them up. :/ I'm not comfortable posting on my BMB bc of the snark, but has anyone else not seen a difference in their weight/belly and movement at this stage in their pg? I will bring it up at my appointment next week, but I'm being a total worry wart over it.

Re: Weight gain / movement?

  • Im assuming this your first pregnancy. I really barely showed at 24 wks with my first. Like it was a tiny belly at 24 weeks. I also didn't feel movement until about 21 weeks. It usually depends on what kind of placenta you have, anterior or posterior. So I really wouldn't be worried on either accounts.

  • I can't personally speak for the weight gain (I'm on the smaller side with twins), but I didn't feel my babies until about 22-23 weeks.

  • With my first pregnancy I started out at 225. I didn't really start showing until about 25 weeks. I don't think I started feeling anything until 20ish weeks (I had an anterior placenta). I also didn't gain any weight until the last 6 weeks or so. I think it depends on to where you carry your extra weight as to when you will show. I carry mine all below my waist so it took awhile until she moved up to show.

I wouldn't worry. Everything is different for everyone :)

  • I'm the same as you ftm and on the overweight side but at 20 weeks. At 18 weeks, I rarely felt anything and I had to really really concentrate and then I thought, maybe it's not baby but gas .. someone once told me if you really wanna feel baby move, don't eat for awhile and stay still. It supposedly will get baby moving.

  • I am not overweight, but was worried because I did not feel any movement either. I never had "flutters", I went straight to full on kicks around 21 weeks. They were very sporadic too. Even now at 25 weeks, they aren't completely regular. Don't worry! Every pregnancy is different, your doctor will ask you questions if they think anything is wrong.

I think I read in the past that if you start off the pregnancy overweight your body knows what additional weight you need and don't need to put on. I think our bodies are really amazing and know how much weight we need to gain and where it needs to be distributed. I am 20 weeks and have gained about 10 lbs and it's almost all in my belly but the way my body type is, I've always had a flat stomach and meaty thighs lol Whenever I gain weight (outside from pregnancy) it's in my butt or thighs so to see only my belly grow has been so strange! As far as the kicks, I was getting really annoyed wiht EVERYONE asking me "DO you feel the baby yet!?" I found it such a personal question! lol Also, I wasn't feeling much so it was annoying me to say no. Well, at my 19 week anatomy scan I was told that I have a anterior placenta so basically there's a buffer between my baby and my belly. She said it was like a pillow between us so it's no wonder I haven't felt as much. Apparently, the bigger the baby gets, the more I'll feel and it's already true! I've felt a good 30 kicks sporadically this week. hang in there! Try to take it as it comes.... If I'm learning anything about pregnancy it is that EVERYONE'S pregnancy's are different it's so interesting to me!

  • Similar story here....started overweight for me by about 30 pounds. I have gained one pound at 16 weeks (thank goodness!) but baby is growing beautifully. I *think* I have felt the very scattered! very random, slight little bit of a flutter here or there, but nothing obvious. Ftm usually don't feel anything until 18-20 weeks, anyway. Add an anterior placenta and it's all down hill from there. Don't fret...it will happen!

IVF #1 never made it to transfer
    On "egg health" cocktail DHEA/CoQ10/FRC/Pregnitude/Melatonin
Starting IVF #2 for Feb 2013
    Follistim/Menopur/Ganirelix
Cancelled mid-cycle due to high P4 levels early on.
OCPs again for IVF 2.5 mid-March. IVF 2.5 transferred two "gorgeous" 5-day blasts and BFFN. Even REI is baffled
On indefinite hold until a huge stroke of serendipity led me to IVF 3 May 2014
Testing found positive cardiolipins/APS, now on lovenox and intralipid infusions
Transfer of 2 5-day blasts and (FINALLY) BFFP!! 1st ultrasound shows two sacs and two HB, but one is sluggish, almost expecting vanishing twin Subsequent ultrasound confirmed vanishing twin, but my other Little critter looks fantastic!
