December 2014 Moms

Im sorry, just because im pregnant...

Does not mean I'm a Designated Driver.

This is the fourth time I've been designated as a DD without anyone even asking me..

I'm probably not the best person to assign that position to.. I'm pregnant, my back hurts, I get irritable easy and I have an attitude. Last thing I want to do is drive a bunch of drunk a**holes around...

Am I the only one with this problem?

It's been my boyfriend every time..
Only way I know about my new 'job title' is when he's talking to someone on the phone and I overhear "yeah man! I have a DD tonight! We can pick you up!"

I wind up DD'ing for H when we go out on weekends, but I don't mind doing it. If it bothers you that much you need to talk to your boyfriend and let him know that you aren't happy about being volunteered without even being consulted first

  • Ya I DD for MH on the weekends.  However, that also means it's usually an early night and he knows that.  I'm not staying up past 11/12.  Usually I drop people off and they can get their own ride home/cab it.  I've also never had to pick his friend up before, so that's annoying.

  • I don't mind being the DD, but I do appreciate being asked first.  I also let them know that I will be going home when I want to, so they may need to find their own ride home if they would like to stay out late.

  • I don't mind driving so DH can have a couple glasses of wine or whatever when we go out.  He isn't getting wasted like some 21 yr old frat boy though.

  • Don't get me wrong. I don't mind doing it, I absolutely want to make sure he's safe and not drinking and driving, but ask me first.. Don't just post a status on Facebook letting everyone know HEY I HAVE A DD ANYONE WANT A RIDE? That's how I found out today, got on Facebook and there it was.. come on..

I wouldn't have minded if he asked me, THEN post HEY, we have an open back seat if anyone wants to carpool..

Saying DD just invites the drunky pants that irritate me. (Being a DD many times before I know how they all act)

You are all bigger women than I am.  I hate drunk people when I'm sober.  I will DD for people but it's very, very rare.  I'll do it for DH, but I would be livid if he volunteered me without asking first.  He knows if he ever did it he'd be cabbing it for sure!

Oh hell no.  No ma'am.  I'd laugh in DH's face if he did that.

I wouldn't mind DDing if I were asked, but since we have a toddler and I'm exhausted by the end of the day, my Friday nights usually include Dateline and falling asleep on the couch :)

  • I don't mind, in the beginning his best friend was like "Sweet! I will call you all the time." I was less than polite with him. I usually go home and sleep before I go get him, he usually tries to find a friend or someone else who could bring him.  But I prefer they call me and have a sober driver, we live 5 minutes from the fraternity/club so it's not bad.  I will try to give his friends rides if they are leaving at the same time.

  • I confronted him and made it known it upset me and his first reaction was defensive and turned it around on me, asking why it was such a big deal and why do i always have to make an issue out of things... Really? So i persisted and made him apologize and actually listen to WHY it upset me...

Hopefully my attitude/temper stays contained in its cage tonight.
  • got a kick out of this.. he edited his Facebook post...

  • If someone posted on Facebook I was the DD for them that night offering me to drive, it would be a different story.

  • Uhh yeah not sure I would go for that. He would be lucky I would be going at all. I don't mind car pooling if the people are local but I won't be driving all around town to pick up and drop people off. Another point like another PP said, I would be ready to leave early hence I would be pissed if I had to wait on a bunch of drunk people who would probably want to hang out and bar hop.

  • Its times like this that I love being married to an old man. An old man who likes to drink his one stout a week at home and watch movies with me. I do not do drunk people.

  • When I went home to visit family and friends, I said I would DD for a few of my friends on memorial day weekend when there was basically a city-wide block party. They assumed that once the party died down there that I would cart them from bar to bar the rest of the night which I had no idea they had planned on doing. Note the block party started at like 1pm so it was an all day and night affair. I told them that I would take them home from the block party or drop them off at whatever bar they wanted but was not going to cart them around all night until the bars closed. It was first trimester and I had bad morning sickness and was tired all the time...I was none-to-pleased. That was the last time I was DD.

  • Ha ha! Nice fb and retraction. I've offered to be the DD and whenever we eat out I offer to drive home so my H can drink. But, I'd be ticked if it was just assumed that I'd do it.

  • I don't mind being the DD but people are whack if they think I can actually stay up late enough to drive them home!  I don't mind going out around 8 or 9 and hanging out for a bit, but then I am toast by 11 pm and they all want to stay out until last call.  So I never volunteer because I know I won't be able to stay out that late.

  • I don't really drink and have only been drunk once so I don't mind being the DD. However, my H is smart enough to not abuse it or just assume I will do it either. I also don't give him any slack the next day. Hangover or not he is getting up and helping with the boys lol.

  • I'm so glad we're past the going out and getting smashed phase. H will have a beer once in awhile, but it's usually at home. And he knows better than to volunteer me to do shit. I'd lose my mind if he posted something that on fb. He owes you big time if you actually do it.

^^ My response is the same here. So glad that SO and I are both past the going out and getting smashed thing. I certainly would have no problem driving home from a restaurant if he decided to have a couple drinks with dinner or while out at a sports bar or something, but no way in hell is my pregnant ass staying up late to taxi a drunk SO and his partying friends! Ugh... I just want to lay in bed and catch up on my Netflix most nights. I am super lame. LOL
