Fun things to do

I need some ideas. I am off work next week, so I want to do fun things with the kids. Dh can not take a whole week off right now, so we can not take a "vacation.". The only things I have planned are going to a fair, a farm that has a petting zoo and other stuff, and one day ds has to get an ear checkup from his infection, so I guess we will go to the park that day.

  • Forgot to say, all I can think of is animal related stuff, I wanted to add some variety.

  • My girls love animals- they probably wouldn't need variety :) But do you have a Children's Museum in your area? Or a theme park kind of thing that's appropriate for little kids? We went to one yesterday and DD2 was absolutely adorable riding around (alone! she was so proud of herself!) in a little caterpillar ride around a little oval track. You'd have to look specifically for one that has things good for the little kids, though.

Or if you're looking for free things to do, you could look for a nature trail around your area and take a little hike with a picnic. When we do stuff like that, the girls love to watch slugs, ants, whatever. They'll spend 10 minutes just staring at a slug.

  • DD and I like to hit up surrounding libraries for story time, craft time and music hours. They are free and fun!

My kids love the botanical gardens, the local nursery, the zoo (our zoo is free bc it's sponsored by the Smithsonian), we have tons of playgrounds around us.  We go to the mall and explore the Disney store/play in the indoor play area/sometimes have lunch.  We go to Target and ride the escalators up and down.  We work in the garden, go mini golfing, paint with shaving foam or pudding.  There is also an aquatic gardens in DC--it doesn't seem to be well-known and is never crowded, but it's a fun kind of random thing we can do any time of year.
Oh and apple orchards.  I'm already planning a trip to the orchard this week.
Yes, the orchard! We are making our first trip this week as well, we have quite a few to check off our list now that we are living back up in CT!!!

  • We go to the library every couple of week or so.  Love to do picnics when the weather is nice - we just go to a park and bring sandwiches with us.  There is a local community center that does a toddler play time for a dollar a person once a week - it is a gym with a bunch of riding toys and stuff.
