Cop moms

Are there any other law enforcement mommies-to-be out there, if so, what are your work plans? How long do you plan to stay on the street, and when will you tell your supervisor?

Re: Cop moms

  • I am a wife of a police officer and I work in a correctional facility (as a therapist). It is harder than I thought it would be...I have always worried for my own safety, but it is nothing compared to the way I feel now that I'm pregnant when any of the inmates come near me. I can't imagine how you feel - are you still out on the road? Is this your first? I told my supervisor almost immediately (especially because we used an RE and had tons of appointments), but I will feel better after first trimester when I can tell all the deputies who keep me safe every day. I have been tempted several times, but we have had a previous loss so I am waiting. Do u have an option to work the desk at all? Are you still wearing your gun belt every day? Ugh, that can't be easy!!

  • Thanks ladies! I really appreciate it.
I am only 7 wks now, and hoping that I can keep going on the street until week 12, possibly 13. It will all be dependent on how I am feeling closer to that time.
It's a tough choice to make right now to stay on the street, but it's very common. And the duty belt is just practice for baby weight ;)
  • 9 weeks 5 days :) I'm a police officer and currently working surveillance. Told the brass pretty much as soon as I knew. They are letting me stay on my current posting for as long as I feel comfortable :)
My thin blue line has been feeling a little thicker these days though ughhhh lol
  • @nnikki10‌

She was on my old BMB and worked I think all the way up. She may have some guidance. I'll see if my tag gets her here
  • So I've been paged by @LEMSA‌ . I told work right away. I might have waited to 12 weeks but DH wasn't having it. I'm kinda happy I didn't I was so sick week 8 to about 21. I worked in a light duty capacity doing backgrounds in plain clothes. My departments policy is to be off street the minute they know. Good luck
  • My husband is! I think the pregnant women usually go on light duty as soon as they find out. Better to be safe than sorry!
  • I am an officer. I told my Dept at 8 weeks. Only because shift bids were due. I am going to try to stay on the road as long as I can. I was pregnant 7 years ago and was treated like I had the plague. I was an outsider the entire time. We have several females at the department but they had children before starting their police career. I was first ever and now comes number 2. Last time I was off the road at 11 weeks and helped with administration. Chief told me to come off at that time. Little did I know, it was my choice. I hated it so much. I want to wait as long as I can. We don't actually have a policy for dealing with pregnancy. So I am hoping they don't try to mess with me. It's a very small clique driven, good ole boy department (40 officers).
  • I'm a law enforcement officer as well and im 11wks 1day. I haven't told my bosses yet because i suffered a loss early on in the past and wanted to wait until at least 1-2weeks be for we say anything. HOWEVER, this duty belt seems like it has gotten 20lbs heavier! I dont know how much longer i can wear it. Im break in the news next week and will be on some light duty desk assignment for sure. We go on light duty when we choose to, the job doesnt care either way as long as the doc says you are fine to keep working.
  • I meant 12wks

Think you might be on the wrong board, home skillet.
Same for the OP, she said she's 7 weeks.
  • My hubby is a LEO! Keep up the good work and stay safe out there mama! A lady in his department found out she was, and they put her in a detective spot.

This post was started in September! Why all these dead posts resurfacing! Stop!!

It is because there is nothing interesting for pages and pages. I'll confess to going back to the fall just to read some good stuff, though I haven't resurrected any zombie threads.
  • Not a cop but thank you for all you do!! Be safe!
