December birthday party question

Ridiculously early, I know, but I want to book DD's birthday party at the place where she takes gymnastics. Her birthday is Dec 21, which falls on a Sunday. I was thinking of having her part ON her b-day, but I am worried it will be crazy just a few days before Christmas. Would you have the party on Dec 21 or a few weeks before? FWP, I know...

Re: December birthday party question

  • Personally I would do it a few weeks before. My birthday is just after Christmas and I always had more people say yes if I waited a few weeks later.

  • My sister's birthday is on the 21st and my mom always had her party on the date. If it fell during the week then the weekend before. She always had kids show up.

  • I vote the 14 or even the 7.

  • Nope. Do it earlier.
  • My birthday is Dec. 11 and growing up, my parties were always very small because so many people are booked up all of Dec. I would do it the week before...

  • Another vote for doing the party before. DD2 bday is the 27th, & IME before Christmas everyone is all hyped up & ready to party/celebrate. After Christmas everyone is broke & tired/has sick kids from all the family visiting. I also suggest doing it the 14th, bc of Christmas parties & such
  • Ditto others that the 21st is too close to Christmas, we often travel, etc. One benefit of doing earlier or after is you space the presents out. My dd is born 2 weeks after Christmas.

  • I would do it earlier or in January. If it was on the 21st and a close friend of my kids, they'd still attend, but I wouldn't be thrilled about the timing honestly. If it was just a whole class party and not a good friend, we'd skip it where we might normally have attended at another time of the year.

  • I would do it earlier. I personally would likely not take my kid to a bday party that close to Christmas because I would probably be way too crazy busy. Also, you will be way too crazy busy! Lol
  • My birthday is the 20th. I usually didn't have an issue celebrating on the actual day since my family was all local and I only liked to invite one or two friends. But if it's a bigger party I would move it up to an earlier date.

  • My DD's birthday is Dec. 22. We always have the party the second week of January (she opens gifts and gets cake from us on her actual birthday and friend party in Jan.). It works out much better than having it before the birthday due to the holidays. She loves it that way too because it is like 2 or 3 weeks worth of getting gifts. Also, it sucks to have a party before Christmas and then have someone give the same gifts your bought for the holiday leaving you scrambling for something else and if you have it after then people can take advantage of the after Christmas sales and you sometimes end up with some awesome stuff.
