He is home. Rehab update.

I went to the family matrix program last weekend (two day counseling program for families @ 8 hours a day). I learned some good stuff but mostly it helped me process all of this and bring my anger level down. It taught me to separate the addiction and the person so that I can be angry at and hate the addiction but find some love and compassion for the person. I learned that many of his choices (such as lying and talking to that girl) were a result of his drug addiction. SO came home on Thursday after a 30 day rehab stay. He went directly from the rehab facility to the outpatient facility to sign up for IOP (Intensive Outpatient Therapy). He will attend 3 days a week for 3 hour sessions each day. It will last 16 weeks i think and he will get random drug tests. On top of that, he is attending meetings. His goal is 90 meetings in 90 days. He went to his first meeting on his first day home. He will need to continue meetings for life. Once IOP is done, he will continue with individual counseling (and couples counseling) once a week. He quit cigarettes willingly in rehab and is willingly attending the other services. DS is very happy to have his dad home. I told SO that i will agree to work on this ONE DAY AT A TIME FOR EACH DAY THAT HE IS HONEST AND SOBER (and not one day more...although hoping and praying that he does not relapse). I will stick by him through urges and cravings but if he choses to act on those urges and relapses...i stand by my decision to leave and request full custody with a restraining order. So far, he is doing good. He has a good eating/sleeping pattern and is helping a lot around the house. We all attended church together today. Im not doing cartwheels or anything yet and i know that he has a long long road of recovery ahead of him. But under the "one day at a time" mind set, he is doing well. The big stressor is that, as of now, he does not have his job back. But we are tackling one problem at a time. Thank you ladies for all your support during this stressful time. <3

  • You are such a strong woman. I'm glad you're taking things one day at a time, that is respectful and very mature for your family. Plus, you know you have the d14 board here for you too :)

  • I'm so glad you had the opportunity to go to a program yourself. I always have a hard time separating the person from the addiction and it turns into a big cycle of anger for me so alanon helps ground me with that. But anyway, if he stays on program and stays sober it will all be ok. Good for you for sticking to your ultimatums! (((Internet hug)))

  • So glad for the update. Just take it one day at a time. It is hard to earn trust back once it is lost. I commend you for your efforts and strength. Wishing you the best in the future.

  • Happy things are starting to get back on track for you :). You're handling it perfectly-- one day at a time.
  • Glad to see this update, your family has been on my mind! I'm so happy that you got something out of going to the counseling program. I hope you continue to reach out for support when you need it. You're a strong lady and you are setting a great example for your LOs. I'm keeping your family in my thoughts and hoping your SO can stay on his path of recovery and be there for your children. ::creepy internet hugs::
  • Awesome! I am glad things are going well.

Don't let him skip his meetings and IOP. There may come a point where he might feel he can skip one, or two and then three. No! He needs to keep going. I say this from an addict's perspective.

    I wish you the best.

  • Thank you <3. @feeshah‌ , i will definitely hold him accountable. So far i havent had to but then again we are only on day 4 of him being home. He wears a bracelet that reminds him to attend daily meetings and is continuously reading an NA book they gave him. I will def push him if needed. Im hoping he wont need the push.
  • Also, i just saw that we were accused of being all puppies and rainbows and shit. I will take some of the blame because my posts have summoned alot of that "P&R" lol. I looooooooooove D14 soooooooo much but seriously, we need to start being mean grumpy hormonal biches again ;) >:D<
  • So glad he's serious about this and hoping he continues to feel that way! Your family will be in my prayers!!
    It's a GIRL!!

  • You ladies never fail to make me cry with the love and support you show. Thank you very much! :x
  • Ive been through a lot in my life. It taught me to depend on God, reach out to my social supports, and never give up. So if anyone has been through hell and back, focus on the "and back" part. Remember that what doesn't kill you really does make you stronger. I see alot of survivors and supporters in D14! =D> :x
  • I'm glad to hear things are going well, even if they're one day at a time. That's all you can really do at this point and you've remained very strong. I'm glad he seems to be taking this seriously and I hope things continue to move forward.
