Finger Foods

It's been a while since I've posted. I've followed the board and commented here and there but haven't started my own post in a long time.

Looking for some ideas for finger foods... we've done Cheerios, peaches, cheese, avocado, little pieces of cracker, sweet potato, squash, and watermelon.

Any other ideas that your child has enjoyed?

Lucy has been doing great with this but I'm still a little nervousness about what to give her and what size. I've been using the size of a pea or Cheerio as my guide.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Finger Foods

  • Any mushy fruit or veggie.... Bananas, very cooked green beans, carrots, peas, strawberries (if you have no family history of allergies), eggs (if no allergies as well. You can also do French toast, pancakes, and grilled cheese.

  • We do a lot of eggs and chicken. LO LOVES chicken! We just cut it up in really small bites. He's done really well with it. He also likes chicken sausage links (we had the Jimmie dean brand) and cut them up in really small bites again. Toast is another option too.

  • DD loves mandarin oranges, pork roast (cooked down soft), pancakes and strawberries.

  • Noodles, My LO loves noodles. I just make sure they are in bite size. I think at this age and as long as your LO is doing well with table food anything you eat can just be cut into bite size. I feed whatever I am eating off my plate and just make sure its small enough. She really loves the inside of garlic cheese bread LOL.
  • We make toast with cream cheese, those "corn pop" things with hummus, loves peas, yogurt bites, hamburger, meatloaf, meatballs, eggs, pancakes, ziti. Anything we eat that is healthy and no salt we pretty much cut up for
    Him. :)
  • We're new to the finger foods game too. But we've tried a lot of soft fruit. Pizza crust. Eggs. Pancakes (this mornings breakfast :) ). Chicken. Pretty much anything mashable.
  • Home girl loves pickle spears. Which is unfortunate for me, because it means I have to share.

C loves them too. I hate pickles.

I only make friends with pickle haters because then they give me all of the pickles that come with sandwiches. Which is just a really long way of me asking, wanna meet up for a sandwich later? :-)
    Lol sure ;-)

I'm always happy to share all the pickles.

  • I hate pickles, I gag at the smell of them. You can have all my pickles!

DH loves them and so do our two oldest. Not sure about LO yet as we haven't tried them with her.

  • K likes everything! Do you have a nuby net thing? We have a couple and they have allowed him to try all the foods! Currently his favorites are blackberries, apples and cucumber in the net. He loves munchies and puffs and crackers and anything I'm eating. Oh and popsicles!
  • Bubs loves finger foods. we give him almost everything we eat. he loves blueberries (cut into 4 pieces), bannanas, rasberries, edamame, chicken, noodles, eggs, strawberries, cantalope, peaches, tofu, salmon. he loves shoving all the things into his little mouth.

  • One thing I will add is I feel i "messed this up" with my DD. I was way too cautious and it too her a long time to move beyond purees and she was so picky about textures. at this age babies are super into trying things and it is a great time to give them lots of variety. For this baby I am giving him all the things. and so far he loves them all except prunes.

One other idea, tomatoes. bubs loves them.

  • I wanted to add how much Raylin loves Chinese food. The noodle were a hit as well as some of the brown rice. She enjoyed the white rice with a tiny amount of the sweet and sour sauce on it as well.
  • Any ideas on seasoning beans? I gave my LO black beans and they were super bland but can't think of anything to season them!
Baby Girl Cbowl born 12/2013.   Love love love.

  • He tries everything we eat unless it's super spicy. Tonight he'll eat the insides of the stuffed shells and maybe some of the pasta, though the sauce is pretty spicy. He had a biscuit today as well...LOVES them.
  • Ok after reading this we need to step up our game. She loves everything puréed but anything with texture makes her gag.

  • I've done watermelon, strawberries, sweet potato, pancakes, french toast, pizza crust, avocado, but I still mostly give LO purees because unless I cut it up super tiny he takes huge bites and has to cough it out. I'm so paranoid about it!
