does your LO use a paci?

I've tried getting my DD to take a paci numerous times since birth, and just can't get her to suck on it. We have tried soothie, nuk and most recently mam. She either laughs at us like it's a joke or spits it out. Just curious how many other LOs out there take pacis vs don't.

We use a wubba nub for DD and she hardly even takes that!

SS- I put 'No' but every once in awhile she'll take one for a couple minutes. I've tried them all too. Wish I wasn't so worried about nipple confusion and would have given her one from the start.

SS- she will occasionally take a wubbanub soothie or a Dr. Browns paci, but only for a few minutes right before a nap.

In a way I'm glad that it doesn't seem like she'll develop a dependency on them, but sometimes it would make life so much easier to give her one and "hit the mute button!" lol.

My daughter used the soothie at first but then we had a mam and now that's all she will take. Tried to give her the wubbanub, which has a soothie paci, she practically gags herself after she realizes it's not a mam paci.

She took a Soothie from weeks 2-4. Now she's a Nuk snob. She also will only use their nipples for her bottles. We have two cute Wubbanubs she won't use.

LO isn't picky on pacifiers. She has a soothie and nuks and basically whatever we got from showers. She really only is offered one if she's fussy or just to relax. She will go days without sucking on one. She does love the wubbanub. It's so cute seeing her hold the little kitty.

Baby is EBF and loves her soothies. She only takes it when she really needs to settle down now but earlier it was a total nipple saver! The Wubbanub is great because she has learned to jam it in herself which is awesome in the car.

I use a paci attached to a little stuffed animal. He couldn't keep any of the other pacifiers in his mouth by himself and didn't like it when we had to hold it for him but with the stuffy attached to it he can hold it in and also loves to hold and play with the stuffy. When he is really tired the sucking helps put him to sleep as well as he likes to rub his hands over the stuffy's soft fabric. These things are a life saver but make sure to get one where the paci is removable or it's really unhygienic. I like them so much I actually hand stitched and made him a plushy paci holder that matched a costume I made for him.

I just toss the Wubbanub in the wash and let it air dry. We have 2 so I can swap them out when one gets dirty. It's no problem to hand wash the paci part or even the stuffed animal if necessary.

DS will take an Avent paci but only when he's winding down for sleep. They are the first ones we bought and he has no problem with them. I was given gum drops but I hate the way they look, feel the same way about soothies.

It's not so much the taste as the way they work. Their jaws need to be relaxed on the breast but the opposite for a paci. Some, like mine, just can't seem to get the hang of this distinction. My LO tries to suck on the pacifier the same way she does the boob and it doesn't work. We've tried to teach her but she is just not into it unless she is desperately tired.

We use currently use a Mam 3+ month for bedtime and MOTN soothing as needed. He didn't take one at first but when he started nomming his thumb/fist we offered the paci again. DH was scared he'd be a 5 yo thumb sucker so the paci seemed like a better alternative. We did find we had to size up recently and he absolutely hates the smaller now (Nuk and Avent 0-3 size).

My guy loves his pacis. He is EBF so we planned on not giving him one. Well that was out the window day 3. Haven't looked back. The tommy
Tippee stayed in the best when he was younger, but now he will take anything.

DS takes the NUK. He only takes it when he naps and sometimes to sleep at night. He tries to suck his thumb but it doesn't soothe him like his paci.

SS - We did paci for awhile but now she doesn't like it. She's now a crazy thumb sucker. I don't know how I'm going to break her from it when she's older.

Yes, my baby is not only breastfed, but we can't get her to take a bottle either -- so at least in our case your theory holds true. I guess I'm not only the sole food source but also her preferred paci. No pressure or anything...

That is really interesting! I never thought about it that way, but that totally makes sense. I wonder if that's my DD's problem too...

This is my main problem. DD HATES the car with a passion and screams until she stops breathing. Needless to say, the farthest car ride we've managed to take to date was 25 minutes and we had to stop halfway and take her out so I could nurse her to calm her down. The car is really the biggest reason I wish she would take a paci, so we could actually go somewhere...
