Trick-or-treating

FTMs, do you plan to dress your little one(s) up and take them trick-or-treating?

S+TMs, did you do this with your first one?

I think we'll just go to the houses of people that we know. Yes, I want candy, but more importantly I just want to AW my baby in her adorable costume! I feel like other people might be judgy if we come by to get candy if we don't know them, and they'll only fawn over baby for like 2 seconds.

I dressed DD up and we sat out on the porch and gave out candy. I plan to do the same with DS. Everyone would compliment her on how cute she looked. Plus they go to daycare so they have a little Halloween parade they need to dress up for.

Edited because I hit the submit button too early. :-w

  • DD1 was only 5 days old on her first Halloween, so all she did was wear a Halloween sleeper and we called it good. We are dressing DD2 up and taking her out with us this year, but not for long. I more want to show her off.

  • We haven't done full scale tot with our three year old yet. We have done trunk or treat. My husband is usually working on Halloween. I'm sure little brother will tag along to trunk or treat. I plan to avoid trick or treating door to door as long as possible.

I'm not going to take her to people's doors for candy or anything but we're going to walk around the neighborhood with her in her costume during trick or treating.

  • I'll be dressing them up but we won't be going anywhere since it's just me alone. DD1 will still be jazzed by everyone coming to "visit her" all dressed up.
  • I will probably dress her up and hand out candy at my house. We live in a good street for trick or treating so she will get to see kits of other kids dressed up! I'm kicking myself for not buying a costume in clearance last fall.

That's sweet - last year DS1 caught on we were giving away the candy, and started trying to shut the door on other kids and chase them away.
We might get 3 or 4 trick or treaters if that. There aren't any other kids in my neighborhood. We shall see what she does this year.
  • I think we may go to a few houses to show off his costume. I definitely don't want to mess with bedtime though, so it'll be early.

  • We have a neighborhood block party every year that I will dress LO up for followed by walking to friends houses to "trick-or treat" just to show off LO mostly. We will also be handing out candy so He will stay dressed up for that :)
  • Casual dress up (Charlie Brown) for picture purposes, maybe visit grandparents. The houses are too far apart where we live to trick or treat. When he can walk and talk we will take him to a more Halloween friendly neighborhood.
  • We'll put him in something Halloween themed (costume if I'm feeling spunky or just orange and black otherwise) and go to my moms to pass out candy. We don't get trick or treaters at our house.
  • Oh my gosh, @knotty-girl‌ that does sound like so much fun! I wish there was something like that around here. I'm super excited to have a baby now so that I can enjoy Halloween even more. It's a close second to Christmas for me!

We live in an apartment so we can't really hand out candy. And I'm with you @ambarnett1, I don't want to mess with her bedtime, so I think we'll be done by 7.

Like @Rrrrrachel‌, we have trunk-or-treat at our church. We might go to that too, but my BIL will have a 19-month-old at that time and their 3 month old that we might go with.

  • We dressed DS up and took him to visit the family.  We took him ToTing last year of the first time at age 2.  We'll definitely get Carlene a costume that she can wear at daycare, and that evening.

@LalaMama81‌ Halloween party in Disney? What do you mean by that exactly? And I love your plan for coordinated costumes! :)

We will be in disney the 25th of Sept to Oct 4. They have something in the Magic Kingdom called, "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party." We are doing it on our last night - they'll get dressed up, go toting in the MK, special dance parties w/ characters, parade, fireworks, etc. all halloween themed. I might be more excited than they are!

Oh my goshhhh, so jealous!! That sounds like so much fun. :) And they're at that age where it'll really be magical for them and they'll remember it forever. :)

We will be there on Halloween I am ridiculously excited.
  • Nah, she's a baby.  Will probably wait til she's 3 or 4 or so.

I am trying to motivate to make her a costume though.  I am in a 2013/2014 moms group and there is a baby costume party in the works.  I think that will be ridiculously cute.
  • I will dress dd up and take her to the church party, but no truck or treating for her. I thinks it's silly to do for kids under 2 (at the youngest). Ds was 2 1/2 last year and we went to the houses on one block next to our house and that was it. This year maybe we'll do 2-3 blocks for him.

Seeing babies out trick or treating and "collecting" candy (the parents have a separate bag for the baby) bothers me way more than older teenagers who come out to get candy.

  • I would dress up my children and answer our door, but not go trick-or-treating. DD is 2 now and I think anything more than one block or so would be too much for her anyway. If we don't have our own home by the time she's 4 I'll actively take her elsewhere to trick-or-treat.

  • DD was 8 months old for her first Halloween. We dressed her up and went to a friend's house with a little one and had pizza while they handed out candy. At 20 months we took her trick or treating to about 5 houses and then sat on our porch. We got one comment from a bitchy neighbour who hates us ;) This year she fully understands Halloween and we'll take her to a few houses again. I have a costume for LO and will probably just carry him around and then sit on the porch. So nothing major.
  • We will take baby trick or treating with older brother (he's eight). When he was a baby, I dressed him and walked around but didn't collect candy. We live in a small town where everyone knows everyone so we wanted to socialize.
  • It's usually freezing here by Halloween. we usually take DSD to a mall in the days before to trick or treat. Her mom loves Halloween and wants to take her that night anyway more power to her. Well do the same this year although I don't want to get him a costume I got him a pumpkin hat and slippers and a old navy onesie that says my first Halloween. Nothing much. DSD wants to be a princess this year. It's fun now that she has opinions
  • I can not wait to hand out candy this year! It's our first in the new house and there are a ton of kids here. I bought dd a cute mouse costume and might just sit her in her chair and let her hold the bowl.

We may have a Halloween party too, but I haven't decided yet.
  • With DD we took her to a few houses her second Halloween. She was a little over a year and a half. Last year was the first time she had any interest in the candy (she was a little over 4.5). DS will dress up and may tag along bit just for fun, not for candy !
  • I bought a pumpkin costume on clearance last November, so we'll dress LO in that for pictures (our dog has a matching costume, ha ha!). We have a century home and go all out on Halloween with strobe lights and creepy music and such, so we won't take LO trick or treating. We usually get about 100 kids every year.
  • We will dress up and hand out candy. I won't take her out until she's old enough to enjoy the candy.
  • We won't do anything. We're not big Halloween people. I'm sure I'll end up making her a superhero outfit and taking a few pictures at some point this fall, but I would have done that anyway.

I'm almost 32 and I've never been trick or treating. True story, bro.

Wow! Any reason why, or just never happened?

  • we always went to harvest parties at my church when we were little (which were lots of fun, had all our friends, and resulted in a ton of candy anyway), and by the time we were too old to care about going to those parties, we were also too old to care about trick or treating.

when you don't grow up loving the tradition, it's not something you're desperate to do or to carry on as an adult.

I'm not sure what we will do because we will have also just moved into a new neighborhood. It looks like one where we should get kids visiting. But I might take it as an opportunity to go get to know the neighbors as bit. Maybe they have an awesome block party that I don't know about yet!

But is did see a Buzz Lightyear baby costume that I will probably break down and buy so I can add the apron and hat for A to be Mrs. Nesbit.

Hahaha, dooo iiiit! That would be perfect!

  • DD was 8 months for her first Halloween.  We were in 2 little playgroups and we dressed the kiddos up for those, but no ToTing.  If we'd been super friendly with any neighbors, we might have taken her outside dressed up during ToTing when everyone is on the lawns chatting, but we still didn't know many people then.

Last year (20 months), I made DD's costum (strawberry) and she wore it to school on Halloween, and we went ToTing to maybe 6 or 7 houses of neighbors we are friendly with.

This year, we'll take DS ToTing with DD (which I'm guessing will be pretty short like last year), and he might get to hand out candy with me.

  • We live in a neighborhood where everyone is literally 60+ and kids get dropped off by their parents every year because it's a safe neighborhood. I'm definitely going to dress her up but I think we'll be passing out the candy at home instead of out collecting it.

Carter's has their costumes 50% off and Kohl's has Carter's and some other brands' costumes on sale and I think they are going to have an extra 30% off promo code going here soon.

That's awesome!! I'm going to look at Carter's. Thanks! :D
