BF'ing - supplies needed+

I'm thinking breast pads
Breast pump (which I've heard the hospital grade ones are best)
Playtex premium drop-ins bottle set
Kiinde twist breastfeeding starter kit

I'm not sure if I need BOTH of the last 2 items I listed...so clueless.

Re: BF'ing - supplies needed+

  • Things I was glad to have right away - Lanolin for sore, cracked nips, disposable breast pads for leaking (washables weren't enough for me initially), Avent breast shells, which came with one set for airing out and one set for collecting leaked milk.

Breast pump isn't needed initially unless there's a reason baby can't latch, in which case you'll want to rent hospital grade anyway to help establish supply. Check w/ your insurance as they may cover a pump, ideally a double electric pump. Won't be hospital grade, but that's ok as long as your supply gets well established.

Bottle types are hit or miss. I wouldn't buy a whole system until after you introduce a bottle and see how LO takes to it.

  • Nursing tanks and bras. Pack a couple of nursing tanks (Target) in your hospital bag. But wait to get bras until after you lr supply comes in, so you know your new bras size.

  • I didn't like the Kiindle system. I would add nursing pillow to the list...I LOVE the My Brest Friend pillow for the first few months. I agree with not buying a whole set of bottles until you make sure baby will take that kind. Some babies are picky.
  • You only need 1 kind of feeding bottle, but babies tend to have preferences...personally, I'd select a system with less waste than the two you mentioned. The dishwasher works fine for cleaning bottles.

I missed the memo that nursing tanks were required; I nursed DD for 2 years without ever owning one or wearing two shirts at once.

Lansinoh soothie gel pads are amazing for initial nipple soreness.

Well nursing tanks are not required, but super handy. Especially for LC appointments so you can just pop one boob out easily and not worry about a bra. At least that's what I found.
