Newborn Covers?

So I have 5 Thirsties Duo diaper covers in size 1 that I thought would be perfect for the newborn stage. However, I have read here recently that they may be too big for a newborn. I am not going to buy smaller covers now because I would rather wait and see how big she ends up being, plus I have amazon prime and can get things shipped pretty fast. But I do want to know ahead of time what I should order if the size 1 covers do not end up working. What would you all recommend for an affordable newborn cover that would work with a small baby? My doctor is thinking she will be 6-7lbs (but who knows!) Thanks for the advice!

Re: Newborn Covers?

  • We were able to use the thirsties right away (DS was 7.5 lbs) but I also had a few rumparooz NB covers that I liked and were inexpensive, as well as a bummis super brite. The bummis is super tiny. I also got them from Amazon. I have heard others mention assunta tiny covers and blueberry mini coveralls, but have not tried those personally.

  • Proraps has a NB size that would probably work
  • My nb stash is thirsties xs, which are technically the same size as the duo 1s on the smallest setting, just less bulky.
Last time around the duos 1s fit my almost 8lb baby right away, we just preferred the xs for a trimmer fit.

  • I like Imagine NB covers.  @ Nickis they are always on sale for $8.50.  They snap down really small but can also get quite big so they will last.  Their shipping is also super fast (and free for Imagine products).
  • As other have said the Thirsties size 1 for my guy right away. I also likes the Rumparooz newborn covers (which still fit at 13 lbs).
I got one of my Rumparoz from Amazon for $13. I also had 2 Sweet Pea newborn covers, they are really tiny (narrow) and have a trim fit. They were almost too trim (hard to get over prefolds), my LO outgrew those the quickest so I sold them. They were only $10 each new.

  • I just bought a bunch of NB covers for a good friend who's expecting a 6 ish pound baby any day now. From smallest to largest, I got:

    Econobum NB
Sweet Pea NB - this does have rise snaps so it gets bigger, but is really trim in the crotch.
    Bummis Super Brite NB
    Rumparooz NB
Thirsties Duo size 1 /Assunta Tiny covers

I think Blueberry Mini Coveralls are on the bigger end of this list, but I didn't buy her one so I couldn't compare them.

  • My favs were rumparooz lil joey covers and bummis super brites.  My thirsties size 1 didn't fit right away and DD was 7lbs 14oz - skinny thighs were a problem for us for a few weeks.
  • Thank you all so much!

  • @CLLDLL‌ please send back the econobum nb if you can!!!! I just threw out the two I bought! I had a 5lb 14 oz baby almost 3 weeks ago. Although these are very small ( they would definitely fit) the aplix is right up to the belly and there is no room for the umbilical cord. The aplix rubbed on his skin. They just looked so uncomfortable on my nb I took it off right away. They are cheap but so not worth it!
  • Loved my rumparooz covers! :)

Every baby is different. If these diapers are so bad they wouldn't sell. When the cord stump falls off diapers become a lot comfier for babies.

The XS are actually just a little smaller than the size 1 snapped down. The size 1 didn't fit M right away (7.5 lb, 22 inches - so long and lean), but the XS fit fine. RaR gave us an awesome fit as well.
According to thirsties, they are the same, and in my experience, it was true.

    Every baby is different.
