s/o food in mesh pouches

Hi ladies, sorry I haven't been around much this summer but I check this site while working and I was off for summer break. Anyway, a quick reminder, I have 2 boys...2.5 and 7 months, born 2/7/14.

Anyway while reading the 'my kiddo won't see eat purees' a lot of people where mentioning the mesh pouches. I was wondering what kind of food you put in these. I didn't use one for DS1, so I am curious how people use them. Thanks

I've done apples and steamed carrots.  We are trying melon this weekend.  I think melon tends to be a very common thing to try in them.  I've also done ice cubes for teething.

  • Bananas also work well. Foods that are harder to pick up because slippery are great.

  • LO likes frozen fruits: apple, peaches, watermelon, mango, & bananas. The watermelon makes a huge mess so he usually goes topless.

  • You can put practically anything in there. They are a PITA to clean out though, especially if you don't put them into hot soapy water to soak IMMEDIATELY after LO is done.

So far we've done bananas, peaches, apples, nectarines, and a frozen apple cube in there. I make LO's food and freeze it in ice cube trays, and they are the perfect size to put into the mesh feeder for a nice cold treat.:)
  • Can you put them in the dishwasher? I didn't think to look before I threw the packaging out.

  • I've found squishy foods are best. And like pp mentioned wash right away! Or banana quickly becomes cement!

  • Why can't you just mash all that stuff up and feed them the mashed stuff?

Sometimes DD wants to do it herself, and obviously can't work a spoon. Most of the time, though, it keeps her happy while I am cooking everyone else's dinner and can't sit and feed her.

  • We've done mango but mostly we do frozen purée foods. Sometimes it's fresh other times it's store bought but she likes it all the same. She LOVES to feed herself with the mesh thingy.

  • Oh I tried chicken today. It was really cooked till super soft with some minor flavoring and dipped in vegetable broth. LO actually was able to finish it all and what was left was tiny pieces of what I'm assuming is fatty meat and broth residue.
