Re: pain in right shoulder blade area

  • That is so weird! I too have pain in the same place. Mine is like a tightness.

  • Do you do most of your work on a computer? I have this when I sit typing too long because I guess I get tense when I am doing a lot of writing. My doctor called it "student shoulder" and the best cure was some muscle rub and to do less typing if possible.

    Good luck!

Maybe a doctor would be of better assistance than a group of random internet strangers.

  • Besides the symptoms you described could be 1,000 different things.

  • Not to be a weirdo but it might be gas. When you are constipated and have too much gas that happens.

  • Yeah it is trapped in the diaphragm. I first heard about it after my first c section but it is common if you have heartburn as well. Drinking ginger ale helps
  • Obviously talk to your doc about it. In the meantime, start paying closer attention to when it is happening. If it happens after you eat a rich/high fat meal, it could be your gallbladder.

But it could be how you sit at your desk at work or if you lean to the side while sitting on the couch or how you are sleeping on your side or how heavy your purse is. Try switching around how you sit and use your arm.
  • I have the same pain but it's on my left side. The only thing I can think is that it's worse on the days I wear my sport bra for any length of time outside of working out. So, now I work out and take it off because I guess my ribs are expanding and the bra is causing pain because it's holding it too tight?!? I don't know for sure, but it's helping so far!

  • If you download the ovia app (another pregnancy app) it highlights shoulder pain during pregnancy.

    Shoulder pain when pregnant
Looks like the laundry list of aches and pains never ends. Shoulder pain usually stems from changes in posture and weight gain (and maybe all the shrugging you’re doing when people ask if it’s a boy or a girl!).

    What causes it?

Progesterone, a hormone released at high levels during pregnancy, tends to loosen your joints and ligaments, producing additional strain and discomfort. And as your body increases in size, particularly in your midsection, your center of gravity shifts and could cause you to hunch over. You might just experience shoulder pain for the same reasons we all do, like an uncomfortable sleeping position, but more serious causes include preeclampsia, gallstones and ectopic pregnancy.

    Tips?

Treatment will vary based on the cause of your shoulder pain, so talk to your doctor if you experience other symptoms of these serious conditions. Try to maintain a stretching routine, not only for your shoulders, but also for your overall posture. You may want to apply ice packs to sore areas, but it's a good idea not to take any painkillers unless they’re approved by your doctor. It could be that your shoulders are sore from holding up your growing breasts, so wearing a supportive bra may also help. And never hesitate to treat yourself to a relaxing massage!
  • I have an excruciating pain in that area and my Dr is sending me to PT 2/3 days a week
