Anyone have ADHD?

My doctor was suggesting I start taking meds again but the typical stimulants make me crazy. I get really bad side effects. She was suggesting some alternatives I have never heard of before. Just curious if anyone takes anything other than adderall and Ritalin? Vayarin is an interesting one she suggested.

Re: Anyone have ADHD?

  • MH has ADD and was on Straterra a few years ago.  I thought it helped great, he is often very annoyed and has a short temper but when he was on the meds he was wonderful.  But he wasn't good about taking them, and when he didn't see results after a few days (eyeroll) he'd complain about taking them.  He had a really bad experience with Ritalin when he was a kid so he's rather anti-meds now.

  • I tried straterra a few years ago but it made me throw up. Totally ruined what little attention I had. ;)
  • Oh and @babycaps I haven't taken meds in a long time. I had it under control and preferred it that way. This sounds weird but now I'm having trouble remembering how to do things. Like if I need to do a big mailing I just can't figure out the right steps to take. Working with my husband has been great because I can go to him and talk through it to figure out. Now that I'm leaving his office I'm afraid I'm going to have problems bc how can you admit to your boss that you can't figure out how to send mail. Haha.
  • My mom and brother take Vyvance. We were all previously on adderall and Ritalin. They seem to really like it.
  • I had many clients that did well on Vyvanse.

  • My husband treats ADHD with neurofeedback. It is an alternative to medication. Eeginfo.com can explain it better than I can.

  • I think my doctor may have mentioned vyvanse. She was telling me about a stimulant that metabolized differently so it wouldn't have all the side-effects. I love adderall and it worked great, but I was constantly flushed, red, and sweaty with a high heart rate. I also got super skinny, which wouldn't be such a bad thing now! ;)
