Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Rock n Play to crib transition

Long story short, DS is 5 months old and still sleeps in his RnP.  He has pretty severe reflux that it helps with, but he's getting close to the weight limit so we want to get him into the crib. At 3.5 months, he was able to sleep in his crib most of the night each  night for about 2 weeks before a whole mess put him back in the RnP.

Last night, we tried to put him down in the crib after he fell asleep.  He slept for about an hour, then woke up.  We rocked him back to sleep, but he woke up each time he was put back down, no matter how long he had been asleep.  It went on for hours before we gave up.

We've tried putting in the crib for naps (he always wakes right back up).  We've tried having him play in his crib to get comfortable there.

I think he doesn't like the openness of the crib after being cradled in the RnP (and swing for naps).  It's also flat, since we took the wedge out after it made him roll down against the side or bottom.

Any suggestions or advice?  I am really, really dreading trying this again tonight.

Re: Rock n Play to crib transition

  • I am in the same boat as you! My son almost 5 months loves his r & p and we've been trying to put him in his pack and play and crib to play and nap in ..he's ok for a little but won't sleep for more than half hour! I agree with the openness..he doesn't know what to do with all the room. I really wish they made a step 2 rock n play he likes being swaddled and in a small area. I guess this is going to be a difficult transition and we gotta keep working at them sleeping in the crib at night. The longer we wait I think the harder it will be. He doesn't feel comfortable in the pack and play because it's like flat not comfy and he rolls onto the mesh ride and is up against that and gets mad so I put him in the middle on his back same thing keeps happening. In his crib he seems more comfortable but he rolls against the bumpers and that makes me nervous So I don't know what's better to take the bumpers off and him running his head onto the hard side or what ughh it's not going to be easy. Also not having him in our bedroom I will be so paranoid not sleeping check in up on him every 10min. .after a while I guess I just have to trust that if he rolls over he will be able to breathe ok or turn his head. Sorry about all this...lol anyone with any advice is much appreciated! !
