I know I'm not the most frequent poster but I thought I would share anyways. I was never set on having a vbac but am so glad I did.
On August 30 I woke up feeling contractions but they were very far apart like very 20 minutes so I thought of there is no way it could be today. We went to Djs parents to watch football as it was the first Notre Dame game of the season. I was still a little bitter that my repeat csection was moved from Friday the 29 to the 1st. I had gone back and forth about a vbac all pregnancy. My biggest fear was having a long labor like Brady's (30 hours ) and the baby stall or get stuck and have an emergency csection. I took Brady to the pool around 11 and swam with him contractions picked up about every 15 minutes apart. We got back around 12 and got Brady down for a nap and I tried to sit and see if they would go away. By 1230 they were getting longer and coming 8 mins apart. I still wasn't certain this was it. I also didn't want to go to the hospital to get turned away like last time. At 230 they were every 5 mins apart and I told Dh we would leave about 3 because they were getting stronger but I could still walk and talk through them. We left for the hospital which was a long ride with lots of summer traffic. We got to the hospital at 445 but the doctor didn't come check me until 530 which I was a 5 almost 6. They gave me IV drugs right away and an epidural by 630. By 815 I was 10 cm and a plus 1 station. My Ob arrived around 9 but baby was still high so we did a few practice pushes and decided to wait an hour to see if she would drop on her own. Around 10 we started pushing. I had to rotate from my side to back and had the oxygen mask on because of her heart rate dropping. They had to put on an internal monitor on her head at some point. After an hour of pushing they brought me a mirror to encourage me because I was frustrated and wasn't feeling much progress. At 11:46 she was born and weighed 9 pounds even 21 inches long. I had a 2nd degree tear and some major hemroids. The recovery has been so so. I didn't remember the after contractions hurting so bad and leg cramps. By day 4 the only pain I was in was from the hemroids. We came home Tuesday we had to stay an extra day bc of her beliruben levels. Which are low now.
I'm so glad I got to have a vbac. I can't imagine trying to be home with a newborn and a 2.5 year old and recovering from surgery. We were preparing for another big baby but my Ob wasn't going to let size stop me from trying. I think she actually moved the csection date on purpose so I could have a few extra days to try.
