I have one kidney and on my second pregnancy this time with Twins

I'm 9 weeks pregnant, we found out at 7 weeks we were having twins; due to some bleeding, my OB sent me straight in for a Ultra sound. SUPRISE Healthy twins (with 144 and 147 heartbeats at 7weeks) :) Were super excited and nervous and scared. I have one kidney and it had to work over time when I was pregnant with my son (6yrs ago). Now that there are two in there, I find my self exhausted falling asleep reading my son books at bedtime 7/8pm . I have zero energy and even less of an appetite, Even drinking fluids poses an issue from time to time, I'm just curious if anyone else out there has experienced multiple births only having one kidney??  We don't see the dr. for 2 more weeks and were sort of driving each other nuts over it, It doesn't help my parents have chimed in on how scared they are my body may not be able to handle all this. I understand my family's concerns and I've told them if something feels wrong or off I'll go to the Dr. or hospital immediately. Its hard to stay calm while everyone else is being a nervous Nellie before we even see the dr.

Thank you in advance for any and all advice.

  • No experience with having a single kidney, but the exhaustion sounds very similar to my first trimester. I'm a nanny, and was constantly falling asleep reading the little boy books, and always napped when he did. On my days off I napped at least once, sometimes twice a day. My twins were my first pregnancy, and for me at least, it seemed like everyone was so concerned and checking on me all the time. Hang in there, I'm sure your doctors will keep a good eye on your kidney :)

  • No experience with that, but wishing you the best!  If you're really worried, I would call the OB office and explain your concern and maybe they will see you sooner.  Can't hurt to try!
  • Thank you ladies, Its not me who is so worried its my loved ones I told them to hold out a few more weeks we see the dr on the 15th. I think everything will be fine I just think, with working full time and running around with my 5 1/2yr old son that i'm exhausted. Family seems a bit more concerned than I am. I've been in bed at 830pm the last few weeks and up at 530/6AM still tired but hoping second trimester is easier.
