TMI pp question. Please help :(

5 days pp from vaginal delivery. 2nd degree tear. Dr said I tore "abnormally" but I'm too afraid to look. Peeing didn't start to hurt until this morning. Is this normal or a possible UTI? I'm talking the worst burning of my life when the urine comes out. What do I do?

  • I had burning around that time too. I was ready to go to the ER that night since it was after hours. Thankfully my parent calmed me down and reminded me I hadn't been drinking nearly enough water so I mixed it with cranberry juice and a few hours later the burning did go away. I would have called the doc the next day but I ended up not needing to. Is it possible you are dehydrated?

  • I had a c/s but had some discomfort peeing at the beginning and found that spraying the area with water with a peri bottle while i peed was really helpful. A nurse in the hospital gave me that tip. I would still call your dr though.

I hadn't thought about that. I stayed up with LO all night and probably hadn't drank any water from 8pm to 1pm today. I'll try the cran juice though too!
  • I had burning a few days pp both times, relieved by Peri bottle as I was going, not just to rinse after. Never had a UTI before, so I'm not sure how it feels, but the burn got better after a couple days and the Peri helped a lot

  • Use a peri bottle and squirt the water as you are going.  That helped me a TON.  I had the super burning like that a couple days PP after my DS, and even went in to be tested for a UTI, nada.  They decided it was likely just irritation from the catheter from the epi.  Of course, if it doesn't go away or at least calm down in a day or so, definitely get it checked out!

  • Another symptom of a UTI is a constant feeling that you have to pee, even when your bladder is empty. If you're not experiencing that, definitely start with hydration and squirting the area with warm water as you pee. Good luck!
  • Peri bottle saved my life!!

  • I drank about 9 glasses of water and I'm feeling a lotbetter! Thank you ladies so much. With everything going on I guess I just forgot to take care of the littlest thing
  • I had the same burning around that time, but I had a labia tear like pp's have mentioned. Peri bottle flush helped immensely while I peed. I also leaned off to the side to angle the stream away from the tear, and gently pulled my torn labia barely off to the side out if the way. It went away after just a couple days though!
