Baby hates solid food! :(

I'm at my wits end! Please help! LO is 7.5 months and we started with rice cereal which she did fine with at 6 months. But after a few days she developed an allergy to it. Her pedi advised us to go directly to veggies and fruit. She did great with avacados but then it all went downhill. She starts screaming and crying the moment the spoon hovers by. I've tried to go slow and steady, tried different flavors, nada...she won't have it!
I've tried baby led weaning, let her play with bananas, etc. and I know most of it will end up on the floor but I'm concerned that she is not wanting to eat at all. Any advice welcome. Thanks!

Re: Baby hates solid food! :(

  • My baby has started to fuss this week but I think it's due to teething. He got fussy and broke one toof the next day. His gums on the front are really swollen and biting or even nibbling from the spoon frustrates him. Do you think that could be the case? Have you tried teething biscuits? Also I freeze the fruits (with hidden veggies) and give it to him in a mesh bag. He lives chewing on it between bottles. I usually do it if he hasn't eaten.

Sorry, I can imagine how painful this process can be.

  • She is bf about an hour or half hour before I begin solid foods. And she seems to be doing alright with teething, not much fussing or pain.
I will try a different spoon perhaps. Have not tried teething biscuits but that is now on my grocery list.
    Thanks!

  • No real advice but I can commiserate. My dd won't let a spoon come near her mouth. She won't put any food in her mouth. She has a really sensitive gag reflex, so sensitive she wouldn't take a bottle or pacifier, so I think that may be part of it. So far I'm not stressing over it. She's still young and is gaining weight fine. My older dd was slow to eat solids also. Maybe take a break for a few days, then try again?

  • Sounds similar to what we are dealing with.  He hates being spoon feed, so we've been letting him "feed" himself.  I think he's only swallowed like 4 actual bites.  Right now, I'm letting him have fun sitting with us and practicing holding food,.   When last I talked to the pedi she said just give him time.  We may try a bit more spoon feeding of purees in a week or so if things don't improve.  He does a little better with the mesh feeders, but often ends up just banging them on the highchair tray or sucking the wrong end.

  • You're not alone. I'm glad you posted this because I was afraid I was a failure, DS2 will take about 10 bites total before he grunts like crazy to get out. I have better luck with food on my finger then a spoon.
